Favorite for what? DD, autocross, drag strip?

Assuming DD, I run NItto NT450's and like 'em. Quiet, good traction and excellent wet weather performance. On my second set. Wear is decent - really depends upon how hard ya drive 'em.

What are you putting them on? Nitto Neogen is a good import tire. (Nitto is my favorite brand for the most part.) Hankook has some good rubber on the Ventus Evo V12. Falken 452s are a good summer tire. I work at a Discount Tire Direct warehouse so I can get a good feel for pretty much any popular and worth having tire.

My thing is this - running racing karts they all run slicks, and the same size within any given class.

The ticket is compound. Softer = more traction and less life because of wear - a no brainer.

For my DD, I'll sacrifice a little mileage lifespan for traction on wet streets. Not talking hydroplane performance through puddles, that's about tire size and tread design.

Talking wet street traction coeficcient.

Not knocking the Michelins and if you want high mileage, go for it. I prefer safety over longetivity. The stopping distance they cite is dry pavement performance.

Tread design has an impact on tire wear and longevity no doubt - I'm not going to debate that. But, the big deal is the rubber compound pure and simple.

45,000 miles is all I want for max wear rating. Otherwise, when the streets get wet, you're screwed with the high mileage stuff.

EDIT: I see you posted you need 14". Pretty limited choices there. The Nitto NT 450 I suggested are not available in 14" Whatever you select, I'd opt for the lower mileage numbers if you can.

double0Si can advise you much better than I can.

I'm just going for a DD. I've got winter treads on mine right now and I don't want to burn them off before winter.

Understood. You already have the soft stuff on for winter - then I'll STFU about it!. Well, then the michelin's are probably a good choice. You run winter tires and summer tires. That's the ticket.

I switched my hatch to 15" wheels and run 195/50's on it. Don't know what your budget is - there are many more selections in the 15" size.

Let's see what double0Si recommends for your 14" wheels.

Falken Ziex ZE-512Sporty, nice tread pattern. Great performance. Decent longevity.http://www.discounttiredirect.com/direct/tires/falken/size/viewProductDetail.do?pc=28854Falken Ziex ZE-912Less sporty look, but still great performance with a 65,000 mile warranty.http://www.discounttiredirect.com/direct/tires/falken/size/viewProductDetail.do?pc=18116If you buy through us your order would most likely be shipped same day (hell, I may even get the order myself) via UPS.*And since youre in Ohio, a next day delivery isnt out of the question. I had 450s on my Camaro. Honestly one Nitto tire Im not a fan of. Good in the wet but squealed like a mother fucker even when I wasnt really gettin into the throttle.

Look for Falken Ziex ZE-512 tires by size in the Fort Worth Area - Discount Tire/America's Tire

NT 450's noisy? They talk a little. This thing in a 4 wheel drifting 3rd gear power slide is noisy: (but oh so much fun)

The Falken Ziex mentioned are good. I really loved the Toyo proxie 4s I had on my Accord. The grip far exceded my Accords suspension set up. They didn't last very long but that was more than likely due to my driving habits when I had that car. Honestly most sets of tires get eatin bad on any car I have owned. I would also look up the Dunlop Dirrezzas or w/e. They are the supposedly the best in the Toyo proxie/Falken zeix/Kumo ecsta price range. Any of thse you should be able to find for around $50 a tire assuming they make them in your size.. I know 195/50/15s are starting to get harder to get.. idk about 14s.

Gee Wally, we must have similar driving habits. :driver2:

Took a 20 piece bucket of chicken (family meal, biscuits and 3 sides) over to the nearby state inspection Jiffy Lube yesterday as Customer Appreciation. Technician (Mike) put the hatch on the emissions dyno 4 times for me over the course of 3-4 weeks time and I only paid once. (had put a rebuilt head on it and had cam and cam timing issues to resolve)

Of course, when I pulled out of the Jiffy Lube lot and onto the side street behind the end of the buliding and out of sight, I had to do a nice smokey burnout for him........

ROFL
