i have a 98 spec type R with ls transmission...my question is what application would i use to order my intake...i prefer to go short ram intake and my ride is a 91 civic si hatch...thanx in advance...
 
Dont they make intakes for B series in 88-91 Civic? I know AEM does but I only have seen cold air set ups
 
im saying if i walked into a shop and wanted to buy an intake, what will i tell the salesperson what i need???
 
try walking in and telling htem what you have...then they sell you what you need
 
FWIW: I'm pretty sure that AEM makes an intake for your setup. I've got an AEM ram intake for a b18c into an EJ8 and am happy with it. It's CARB legal, fits well, sounds good, and seems to flow well (never been on a dyno).
 
You have an ITR with an LS transmission? Doesn't that kind of...suck?
 
well its good, but i had asked in a different thread abt changing out my clutch and k2e2vin said that it should be cool, but he did recommend going with a b16 tranny...what do you recommend as far as tranny???and lumpskie thanx, but is it a short ram intake???
 
will there be a difference, and if so what will the difference be???and is it worth the change???
 
You can get a 92-93 B17a GSR tranny that is cable. Have one in my b16 ED hatch, paid $400 for it rebuilt.

Your probably gonna end up getting an intake that takes place of your stock battery location. I have one of those passwordjdm power chambers for the EG/EK and it takes up all of the battery area. I also have a battery relocator box that sits on the frame rail right below the original battery location (putting the battery in your cabin is retard IMO). If you put one of those cable to hydro converters in there you won't have room.

Maybe it's just me, but I wouldn't waste my time with a hydro tranny unless you are putting in a dual syncro transmission from the EK type R. You could get a B17a GSR and put a 4.7 final drive gear in it for less than a hydro GSR with no LSD + the conversion parts/ headache.
 
B17 transmissions are getting a little more rare(considering they were only made for two years in just one trim); JDM B16 transmissions(from the Integras) should be easier to procure and have similar if not the same gear ratios, though may cost a little more. Around here I've only seen maybe 2-3 B17 transmissions for sale in the past ~2 years; but by all means if you can get a B17 transmission go for it! But, as stated before, for daily driving, the LS is completely fine.

For the intake, metal intakes are a huge issue but any reputable brand(AEM, Injen, etc.) should make intakes that clear the battery and work with a B-series swap. Though, a battery relocation does make using different intakes easier and reduces the chances of the intake causing a short.

Ah, yes. I always think b16 cable.. SiR. Brain retard on the integra b16s.

if you really wanna change up the tranny, which i suggest because the LS is so long.. call hmotors and see what they have


and if your battery is already relocated.. buy a short ram for a CRX SI, it'll fit

Yes sir, it's a ram intake. It extends from the throttle body 3-4 inches, makes a 45 degree turn and extends another 4 or 5 inches. The filter element ends up almost where the stock one would sit. Hope that helps!
 
If you're used to the "lower end" Civics and CRX, and even Accords, the LS transmission isn't so long ;)
