Hey Guys I am building a b18b motor and Im wondering should i get a new main girdle kit for my build ? it also comes with a new oil pick up or should i use my old one? the motor is going to be all redone, im going to get the Motor bored out, block decked, the mian bearings installed and the crank polished and installed as well im also getting new rods and pistons. Any help would be great
 
If you're gonna be staying within stock rpm limits dun waste ur money on a girdle bro. But if you're building it to go past oem rpm limits 8k and up, go ahead and get urself the girdle and oil pickup kit. While ur at it, get ur hands on a GSR\TYPE R oil pump also. You will need it. The LS oil pump will not be able to handle the high rpm
 
Yah im going to be building it for a turbo so I will get my self a girdle kit, and thanks for letting me know i need a type r oil pump , im also gonna be putting a b16 head on it, i heard they flow better
 
b16 is a poor mans type r the b16 and type r head are the same but the type r is 1.8 instead of 1.6 but once you get the b16 head decked polished ported and upgrade the valve train and such it will be better than a type r head so don't waste your money on a type r head just get the b16 and do head work
 
and on a side note what are your power goals how big of a turbo you putting on how much psi are you planning to push etc... this should all determine what kind of head and block work your going to do. AND PLEASE GET A TUNE AFTER YOU TURBO!!! most people i see forget or don't do it which is a big mistake and your throwing your money away if you don't get the tune
 
Yeah, like he said, once its together and running, tune it asap! Hondata offers a couple different basemaps for several different boosted apps, as a "just get it running" tune. They work fine as long as u only leave that tune on it long enough to get a chance to dyno\street tune it correctly. Yah i know about tuning it , I also wrote in my post that i will be getting a b16 head and a type R oil pump not a type r head , and i want to run like 10-12 psi on the motor and around 300 hp or 325 when i turbo it
 
another question i have can i use b18c parts in my motor like pistons or do they have to be b18b parts?
 
You can use gsr\type r pistons if you want, but keep in mind, they are both high compression pistons. If you're going to boost it you want to keep compression low ( 8:5-9:5 range for example ) the lower your compression is the more boost you will be able to safely run. Dont get me wrong, ive seen people use gsr pistons and push their shit to 300+ hp but that was after EXTENSIVE tuning to keep everything safe. If you want to be cost effective leave the b18b pistons but use gsr crank and rods with ARP rod bolts and ARP headstuds. The b18b pistons are low enough compression to run a ok amount of boost safely but still high enough compression that you arent sacrificing to much on the bottom side of your power band. Just my .02
 
I understand all that but Im going to be getting wisco pistons and golden eagle rods, and im just going to use my stock b18 crank,
 
Ok what would be better honda or acl? and for the b16 head , what should i upgrade in it? valves, springs and retainers? should i get new cams for my head?

AcL bearings are designed for high performance applications, OEM honda gives you outright dependability. For a boosted situation I would go with ACL all day. As far as the head, if ur gonna go ahead and build the bottom end, dont half ass the top end, build it! I cant recommend a particular cam set without knowing your setup and specs but I highly recommend skunk2 and toda. If cost is an issue, brian crower cams are a good choice too. The stock b16valve springs can handle the rpm you're planning on pulling, but the more aggressive lobes on the new cams will wear em out quick. Get ya a set of type r dual valve springs, or some skunk 2's. As far as retainers, its ur choice. Ive heard of oem retainers holding some serious power, so I wont go against them, but at the same time theres no tellin how much abuse the ones you got now have taken over the years, so at least replace em wit a new set. As far as valves use your stockers. They will hold up just fine. All this info is just my opinnion from previous experience\knowledge. I highly recommend you still do as much research as possible before you start dumping digits into your build. Better sure than sorry. :)
 
You could just to be on the safe side. Block guards do take up space where coolant flows in the block, so if ur gonna put a block guard in there, def. Upgrade your cooling system!
 
as far as cams go, i've heard GSR cams do really well w/ boost
 
stick with b16 head and get gsr cams. the b16 head flows better, and the bolt pattern for the intake manifold on gsr is different so it can be hard to find a good intake for it.
