Ok, so I got a 95 GS-R motor (B18C1) and currently have a Hatch (99) w/ B16A2 motor. Question is will the cams out of the B18C1 fit into the B16a2 and what kind of gains will I see? I already know that if I put the head of the B16A2 onto the B18C1I will gain a good amount but I am focusing on the B16. On a side not the B18C1 is for sale as is!! But I am building a B16A2 and it is going to be a monster!!! Any help will be appreciated. Thank You!!!

Some people think there are gains with GSR cams on the B16 but I do not have first hand knowledge. Its pretty expensive to dyno the car to see the difference so I doubt most people truly know (unless they think their butt dyno is highly precise lmao)

It might be worth a try if you were doing the timing belt or something else in the area that makes it worth your wild.

But if you are not doing it yourself....and have to pay a shop....IMO not worth it in any way

Suggestively with GSR cams and new gears with a head overhaul you think there would be a sufficient enough of a gain that it might be worth it? Well right now i am deciding to stroke the b16 up to a 1.8 and turbo the baby so i am trying to decide if i should just go with a b18 head. but than people do suggest and i agree if you have a b18 put a bb16 head on it. so if i go and stroke the b16 to a 1.8 would i get the same increase with the b16 head?

dude, just keep the gsr motor and build it. building a stroked b16a with a b18 head WTF? i think youve been reading about lsvtecs and got confused lol.

Yes.....I agree....bad idea to stroke a B16. Its just not logical when you have a B18C now.

I have read that you can take a GSR block/head and use LS crank/rods and get good gains...not sure on the pistons that are safe to run (but if you are interested....look into it)

Build the gsr. I would keep the b16 stock and use it as a DD. now if u wanted to put the b16 cams in the gsr, that would be batter. but the gsr would be the one i would go with. it would be safer for a turbo setup to with the oil squirters. but do alot or research before you start building it.
not to flame or anything but i was looking at your other posts and it kinda seems you have no clue what you are talking about.

but yes you can put the gsr head on the b16 and you will get more low and mid power out of it but the b16 will give you better power in the higher rpms.

hope this kinda helped,
Kevin

It does help. Thanks guys. I have always kept in mind that when i build a motor i want to keep it smog legal and try to set goals for peole trying to build a motor and keep it smog legal. I live in california and want to keep it all legal. If i go with the b18c1 it wouldnt be legal. so that is why i am building the b16a2. Any help with the b16a2 will be helpful!! and your right i am still learning about the build portion of the engine.

Just because they make a higher displacement engine already doesn't always mean its the most logical path. Look at any of your top S2000 tuners. Always a 2.0 stroked to 2.2, 2.3 when they have a readily available 2.2. I would agree when talking about a b series though;).

All you CA people just need to move the fuck out, seriously. You aren't even allowed to swap engines now at all?

it eay to smog a car here in ca.....as long as your smart enough.

The big issue in ca is this... First is the engine going into the car newer than or of the same year. Next is the motor the same engine as the one pulled out. and also is the motor of better emissons and di the that particular engine come on that chassis. other than that your good.

is it better to put the b18c1 cams in the b16a2 engine? this is why the conversion is being brought up! look I have a b18c1 complete engine and am about to sell the whole car what parts are essential to make the b16a2 engine perform better that i can pull off of the b18c1 motor?

I seriously dont think b18c1 cams will give you any big gain.

If you have GSR cam just laying arround and a B16a engine I dont see why not try it.

But if your going to pry another engine apart take the cams and hope for a gain......its not worth it. Plus It would be a waste of time and engine.

Build in Maine, no title is required for cars, 1995 and older. Hopefully soon this state will become EG haven. ^^

The the misspelling doesn't give full credit, lol

Is the B18 allowed in the EK chassis since honda dropped the B16 into the 99-00 Civic Si, or does the fact that the bigger displacement of the B18 was only ever factory stalled in a teg restrict it from legality?
b16 cams are the worst bseries vtec cams there are.. lol.. if anything, get some ITR/CTR cams and put them in either motor..
Good to know about the b16 cams.
Well anyone interested in a b18c1 engine with shift linkage and ecu with axles?
Transmission is not included?! PM me with detials on year, loctaion, etc. please.

gsr cams will help out not to much but you will get better flow with them. If you really wanna cam it just get stage 2 after market cams . You will see a lot better result. Even over ctr or itr. Buddyclub makes nice one's .
