ok so here is my ? i was going turbo but decided not to. but i have a stock b18b motor. i plan on building the block.but i have a b16 head. i also have toda cams i plan on putting in it. what would be the main gains. would it be worth it or should i just build the ls all together. i have like a month to do it all so. any help would be good. main ? is to do or not to do.. \

find out what toda cams you have.

once you do that youll learn two things... maybe more

1. if you need to bump compression to take advantage of the cams.

2. if you need uprate springs for the cams

you'll also learn that going all motor and making good power is expensive.

it depends on other modifications and tuning, but it should make somewhere around GSR power.... probably somewhere in the 155-185whp range. keep in mind that in order for a lsvtec to run to its full potential it will need to be tuned.

The compression change with a stock LS bottom end and B16 head is higher compression than a GSR ....so it will make more power.....but a Socketed/Chipped ECU will be needed.

If you do something like P30 pistons....compression goes up more and you will be around 190-200whp on a stock B16 head and pump gas. At least thats my opinion.

ok thats all i was wondering was the power areas. work wise is no problem i have all the stuff to do it. was just wondering if it was really worth it.

Probably a lil over optimistic there bud. I havent seen a stock block LS w/a stock B16 head put down the same as a GSR. Not to mention the compression on it would be a tad higher than a stock LS. 9.5:1-9.8:1 (according to c-speedracing.com and zeal). GSR has 10.2:1 or higher...

Granted tuning is needed. You can run the car on a stock GSR map and be safe, just can't beat on it very hard. But if you've got a stock block LSV then you can't really beat on it to begin with due to the inferior rod bolts... Get some ARP's and you'll be good though.

As for the P30 statement, I dont see 190/200 out of a P30'd LS w/essentially a stock head. Tuned or not.

ok well thanks all i have the parts for block and head and i will be doing it this jan << i usually get that whole month off of work. but thanks again. it will all be built and tuned. ill give a heads up when i start it.

I've read dyno sheets with P30 pistons but with camshafts too....and they hit over 200whp

And A LS Bottom with a VTEC head is DEFINITELY higher compression than a GSR....period.

stock ls bottom with any vtec head will not be higher compression than a gsr. go punch the numbers into a compression calculator.

For me Ls V-tec is not worth it. Ill just swap a Gsr cuase is a way better engine and has better gear, I think the Gsr is the 3rd best engine for Honda. Also like my friend who work at Honda say "If Ls V-tech is that good why didn't made it ?". But its really up to you? Either way its going to nice.

Ok. Just did. I used zealautowerks.com, c-speedracing.com, and ff-tech.com's compression calculators all with varying results but all show it with less CR than a GSR aside from zeals results using a GSR head.

I selected LS block, LS crank, LS rods, 3 layer HG, B16 head compression came out to 9.98:1 (<---Zeal), 9.55:1(<---c-speed), 9.53:1 (<---ff-tech)

then...

I selected LS block, LS crank, LS rods, 3 layer HG, GSR head compression came out to 10.18:1 (<---Zeal), 9.73:1 (<---c-speed), 9.71:1 (<---ff-tech)

...and using our references here on HS... it says JDM GSR has 10.6:1 and USDM GSR has 10.0:1...

Granted 10.18:1 is higher than a USDM GSR... its really not worth doing using a STOCK LS bottom end.

Just sayin'.

If you subsituted the HG out for a non-oem 2 or 1 layer than sure I'm sure the CR would be a scotch higher.
