Honda Cr-z

I've been lurking on and off but haven't had much to say. I moved to new york, and got a job at cbs. I can't really own a car where i'm living but i have one some how. . .

I saw the crz and i wondered what you guys thought of it.

it isn't that big 2600-2700 lbs is small for today's (safer) cars. I'm sure you could trim 1000 lbs easy, just gotta pull out the batteries and drive train and put in an hf engine.

I'm excited about it. I don't care about hybrids for fuel econ or anything like that. I think if reworked properly this is the answer to torqueless na honda motors. I'm gonna wait to see what comes out of japan in the way of tuning capabilities and if Honda decides to release a real Si version that's slightly more powerful. Either way I'm sure I'll own one of these within the next year or so. Have three manuals incoming any day now and I can't wait to drive one.

diesel isnt high tech enough for japan to get behind

and american consumers are too fucking stupid to realize that "hybrids" are not an answer to anything

too many hybrids get that title becuase of low emissions, while they still get shit for gas mileage.

VW makes tdi cars that get 50mpg and are NOT hybrid. stupid americans really don't know shit about cars.

its ok though because "the new fuel efficient _____ gets a gas sipping 28 miles per gallon highway"

you see by simply repeating that over and over in commercials and ads... the auto industry is effectively lowering the bar for what is considered "fuel efficient" by the car buying public...

so basically 30mpg is the new 60mpg...

but wait, "congress passed laws that require car companies to get 30mpg"

little did they realize that it's the AVERAGE mpg. kick out 1, 50mpg car and you can make 2 more, 20mpg cars.

oh, and don't get me started on the possibility of car companies greasing the pockets of the EPA and upping the mileage ratings. it's funny how the cr-z is only rated at some bullshit like 32 mpg, while the camaro found a way up to ~28. (just shooting from the hip and not 100% on the numbers, but i think they are close)

I had the pleasure of driving a new CR-Z. I thrashed the hell out of it and got 37mpg with the 6 speed. Not too shabby if you ask me. Another bright side is that it is really nice inside. It's a huge step up from a Civic in terms of feature content, ride quality, and materials quality. It felt really peppy around town due to the low end boost by the electric motor. Up top it feels very un-honda, and runs out of steam.

so they pretty much inverted the torque curve?

sounds like a good idea. i'm sure if you put it in eco mode you can push it out to 50.

Possibly. It's no Prius, but it will do much better than the posted EPA ratings.

Yeah, the EPA tests the car in Normal mode.. Eco mode probably will be much higher.. but not on the window sticker.

I'm waiting for the new Civics. They're supposed to be smaller. :)

I don't like the CR-Z not just because of the weight(IMO they should still try to keep it light weight; doesn't the latest Miata weigh like 2400lb?), but the size just looks bulky, as with most new cars. I'm digging the rear though; looks like a wide-body Insight.

take out 600 lbs of batteries and it will even out. and the miata doesn't have a back seat or a roof. lol. not an apples to apples comparison.

I know, but as far as GRM goes the CRX is comparable to the Miata(direct comparison doesn't really matter, since they're obviously different approaches); though I'm sure now Miatas are the most common; haven't seen much later generation Hondas out there.

As for the battery issue, how did they get the 1g Insight so light? IIRC, that thing is around 1800-2000lbs.

btw, they have hard tops for Miatas ;)

Government safety regs, plain and simple. The CR-Z is a big car compared to the gen 1 insight. That car is as small as a real CRX, maybe a bit smaller. Damn rooflines are so high on cars now for rollover.
