Anyone into these? I'm thinking about picking one up soon and can't really decide what I want. Its not going to be a racer or anything, just something I can have fun with. I'd like to stay on a 1/10th scale or maybe a little bigger. I've looked at some redcats and they seem pretty durable for the price. I'm not really looking to spend $700 for a tmaxx or anything for my first one. Lol. Anyone have any suggestions?

now I got to look at all my bank accounts and projects ans see if I can squeeze this in....
 
not right now...I'd have to research what radio and servo's are needed and the cost...

money needs to be spent on kayak first...
 
Stay away from nitros, they are a pain in the ass to start, you have to constantly mess with the carb settings, if she goes on its lid it dies. I wouldnt get a 2-speed either, as soon as they come off the ground they bang second and the car goes nose high. ( I had a 2-speed gasser) Ive been looking into the Traxxas Slash, a friend of mine has one with a nice brushless motor and lipo battery setup, its just as quick as a nitro car and way more reliable, not to mention a ready to run can be had for about $250ish.

Yet another person who just sucks at nitro.

I've never had issues with nitro, started using them around 16 and can tune a nitro motor in under 1 minute and wont have to touch it for months outside of the slightest maybe 1/8 turn tweak.

Only thing people need to do with nitro R/C is remove the pull start (cut the crank shaft tip and put a backplate on the motor) or buy a legit motor without a stupid pull start. If you use a starter box you can easily tune while starting the car up, in most cases I can get a 1-2 year long sitting RC car to fire up within seconds and run. With a pull start, it could take 2-3-4 minutes.

I've had both electric and nitro and unless I'm running it indoors I cant stand batteries. Yes its cleaner but not worth the trade off. I've since sold off my electric cars, only thing electric I have now flys.

Plus with nitro there's nothing like the smell.

I've never had issues with jumping and a 2 speed, however I tend to leave 2 speeds to my street cars. I havent really had the need to run them off my off road trucks. I've done i before but swapped them out to the street cars.
 
Anyone looking to buy an R/C car, make sure you go to your local shop and ask about parts. Most of the cars being linked in this thread will be a total PITA to find parts for. Internet will most likely be the only option.

Another thing is you get what you pay for.

One of the upsides to electric cars is I almost never broke anything. Taking a really fun R/C car and detuning it makes things last longer....

Also, dont buy a car based on the body, find the chassis you want and search the internet for the body you like. Bodys are easily interchangeable.

I run one of these: YouTube - HPI SAVAGE X 4.6 BIG BLOCK

Lots of fun. Outboard electric starter used to fire it up. Tuning? Well, either you can tune a nitro motor or you can't. No problem for me.

Why a truck? Because I can run it anywhere and any time. Doesn't need a track or parking lot. Can run in yard and street in front of my house.

Fast? Runs right at 40 mph flat out. 2 speed makes it fun.

One thing in favor for Nitro is run time. Batteries crap out too soon, motors overheat. Nitro has good run time on a full tank of fuel and it refills fast.

Expensive. Cost about a grand fully outfit with a good radio with good servo's and start kit.

I've ran electric's too and for me - nitro is the ticket. Nitro is not for everyone - but it's my preference. I run nitro boats too. Electrics are boring for me - not because they won't perform - they do - just because they're electrics. Nothing like a nitro motor.

I'm just looking for something to learn on. Thats why I picked the redcat tornado s30. Its cheap and it can still be upgraded. And if I break it I'm not out $1000.

Do you have an RC shop nearby? Go there for advice.

Is the redcat complete or do you need to add a radio?

For reference only - the steering servo in my Savage cost ~$125.

Find a shop and let them advise you and show you what you are getting. Watch some stuff run.
 
Yea I have a shop about 20 minutes from my house. I'm heading up there monday to see what all they have. The redcat is complete, it has everything.
