So i come here looking for advice once again....

I have been neglecting my teeth for years and now need a couple root canals and probably other work. No, i am not a toothless redneck, just a couple of molars that arent in good shape. I dont have dental insurance, from what i remember when i did have it, it sucked anyways. Do you guys think it is beneficial to get insurance before i go? or should i just call around and try to find out which office has the best price for root canals? can you even do that?? lol

any advice or past experiences with dental work and costs is appreciated :D

Most dental insurance takes a 6-12 month wait period before it covers anything. So, even if you bought some today, it won't do any good for you until next year.

Plus, on major services, it's usually only 20% coverage.

If you're hurting now, pay cash now. Most places are about the same price. They are basically regulated by what insurance co's pay out for X service.

I'd suggest calling around and asking about cash discounts. I know personally and through my family that plenty of medical offices offer a major discount for cash customers. I managed to get in contact with a sincere oral surgeon and dentist a few years back when I had a lapse in insurance. With four god awful impacted wisdom teeth, I got hooked up with a major surgery and cleanings for pretty damn cheap, and they allowed me to make small payments each month until I could pay it off. Idk, I guess it's just so much less of a hassle when they don't have to deal with insurance companies. That and you can play the pity card. Although, they did make sure I put some money down.

I'm about an hour north of you or I'd suggest those who I went to. Good luck.

a root canal will be at least 900 bucks then if they crown it thats another 900 at least.

Watch "Little Shop of Horrors"

Then decide you really do want dental care. Get it taken care of so you won't be in pain.

(900 + 900) x 3 = 3000???

im not asian.... but im pretty sure thats not right

well i just got one done about 7 months ago and i know different states have different prices but down here the total was 1900 and some change

This is great advice.

However, root canals are far more labor intensive than extractions so, hemight really be up fucks creek here.

I havent been to the dentist since early 2009. I should probably go back.

*brushes/flosses daily.

Around my area it'll run you about $2k for root canal and crown
you can go to the ghetto dentist and get it done cheaper
if they're all the way in the back you might not want to get a crown put on if its out of your budget

i would HIGHLY recommend asking people you know for a good root canal specialist recommendation
you can have years of problems if they fuck it up or leave something in there
its happened to a few people i know that are still dealing with the issues years later now

thanks for the advice everyone! i have the money to get fixed, although it will coming out of my savings, which sucks. i will be making an appointment soon i guess. god i hate the dentist.

gas is always a good time at the dentist
cha cha cha..... wah wah wah......

you guys were right about prices too... seems the prices are pretty much the same everywhere. the place im going is 700-900 for a root canal, plus crowns, xrays, etc. yay cant wait.

wait until you see the smoke rolling out of your mouth from the tooth then you know there workin lol

FML I need 3 root canals if not 4 and probably need my wisdom teeth removed. :( Im going to mexico to get this shit done.
