Are all B-series headers the same?

I know this is a dumb question. I read that most B-series parts are interchangeable but i wanted to make sure before I buy anything.

I have a b18a1 in my 91 Civic hatch and it needs new headers. However my engine has a b18B1 head on it. Do I need headers specific to the B18b1 or are they all the same?

I see some headers (namely the skunk 2 ones) listed as for "vtec engines only" and i was confused because I thought that any B-series header would work.

I also read that I'm going to have to cut the crossmember in order to fit the headers. Is there no way around this? Will it cause any structural issues? I thought about buying an aftermarket crossmember but they all seem to hang down really low and cause clearance issues.

Mine hasn't already been cut because the prev owners hacked up some headers that weren't meant for the engine and rewelded it to fit. My exhaust is like one giant exhaust leak.

Lastly, does anyone know if there is anything decent available for around $500? I have to get my exhaust fixed up for inspection in October so i don't have much time to save.

Thanks for any input.

any B18 header will work. a B16 header may even work depending on the design.

all b series are the same header flange. the only one that might be different is the b20a from the early preludes. but im not positive.

Its got a PR4. I'm not sure if thats OBD1 or OBD0 but thats what would determine the number of O2 outputs wouldn't it? I suppose i could crawl under my car and look though.

But anyway, Pretty much any B18 header as long as it has the right number of O2 outputs.

your best bet is to get an 90-91 integra b18b header part number. it will bolt to your head no problem and should have all the correct bungs for electronics.

I thought 90-91 was when the Integra had the b18a? ugh, I'm so confused about this stuff. Sorry guys.

Either way, if it has an extra bug they can always be plugged can't they? i thought i've seen plugs while shopping around online.

b18a/b exhaust manifolds are interchangeable

and yes you can buy plugs to plug 02 sensor holes. is it recommended on a nearly stock setup? no

Thanks. I didn't mean deleting the O2 sensors, just pluggin up extra bungs if I run in to any.

So it has def has to be an LS header though, Not a gsr or b16 header?

Does anyone know if there are any headers out there that don't require modification of the front crossmember?

it depends. some headers/o2s are designed for monitoring banks 1 and 4 with 2+3. they aren't 2 doing to same thing. they are one per 'bank'.

90-93 b18a headers from DC the two piece design with the o2 sensor just before the catalitic converter is what you need. the vtec one piece designs work, however you do have to notch a piece of the crossmember for clearance. the 2 piece is easiest to install, bolt on the top piece and then the bottom. brand new from $350 to $450, used $250 to $350. peace

Thanks a ton! Are those the prices for OEM ones? Do they usually come with gaskets?

Also, Do I need a torque wrench for this? Usually when bolting anything to the head it needs to be torqued right?

500 would get you a really nice hearder that acutally makes power.
DC sports is a good entry level header and should be well below 500 as stated above.

Do you have any other modifications? If not just stick with oem.

I have a cat back exhaust that needs to be replaced (it has leaks), and I'm going to need an intake (previous owner just put on a tiny little pipe and cone filter that just barely comes off the intake mani.)

Otherwise it's stock engine wise, B18a1 with b18b head.

DC sports is a decent brand then? I was never really sure.

Thanks for the help.

pretty decent.

I personally would find a matching header from a junkyard and have a muffler shop make you an exhaust system. Will be cheaper, no waiting and of course still provide a little more HP.

Thats what I was going to do for the exhaust. I was going to try to find a muffler I like and have an muffler shop do everything in between. I could probably even get away with keeping the muffler thats already on it. It's the large fart can style muffler (idk what else to call it and I think its an off brand). I was going to look in to getting something smaller tho.

I think my current exhaust is 2.5in. Would it be worthwhile to drop down to 2 1/4? Having an overly large exhaust kills bottom end torque doesn't it? It's not like we have very high displacement engines.

A muffler shop can't make a header to can they?
