Fixing to paint my car and i'm having hell with the moldings. I know there is a nut at the back that has to be removed, then you remove the door panels and pop the clips to remove the molding. My problem is there are 2 enclosed reinforcment bars running along the inside of the door that the molding clips clip into. How do i pop the clips out or do i have to break them and just buy new ones?

I'd like to know too because I just broke them, and replaced it with spares from another door molding.

idk if they are the same as the eg moldings but i just took the panel off and used a long screwdriver. it was still a bitch

I'm in for this too. I remember looking awhile ago and no one knew from what I read. Everyone just breaks them.. stupid. There is no way I could see to get behind that bar.. unless you cut it which isn't a solution.

x2

and i know it sounds dumb and cheap, but when you are a broke college kid its hard to choose between buying new clips or using that 16 bucks(i was told they are $2 a piece) for lunch or gas

Door molding removal

Started getting ready to paint my car today and figured out how to pop out the moldings and clips without breaking them

start by removing the black 10mm nut on the inside of the door step 1.jpg

gently pull out and up on the bottom of the molding all the way across except for the very end by the fender(it will pop 4 times, and it feels like you are breaking it)step 2.jpg

pull out and up on bottom of molding again to pop the top portion of the molding loose step 3.jpg

once you have the molding loose it will still be attached at the end closest to the fender, push the molding towards the front of the car and it will slide off the clip
step (6).jpgstep 6.jpg

turn the large white clips 1/4 turn and they will come right out step 4.jpg step 5.jpg

the small red clip that you slide the molding off of is more dificlut to remove, but the way i did it was hold onto it with a set of pliers and wedge it out with a screwdriver

That's what I tried to do with my Accord, but ended up bending the molding

Just get a panel popper/trim tool. Lift the outside edge of the molding away from the car, slide the tool behind it where the clips are, and twist back and forth gently, and the clip will pop out.

 Sorry...
wish I would have seen this thread earlier lol. The panel popper is kinda like a hammer. It's the answer to everything lol.
