hey guys, i have a 91 crx i want to throw a b20b on.
ive looked at my local carshops, and they are only selling the B20 lonblock:confused:.
im not looking to turn it into a vtec just yet im just looking for a little more torque and to make my ride to work a little more exciting;), so for now it's just gonna be straight engine with headers and CA intake.
so my question is, what kind of tranny would go best with the engine???

PLZ help a nu-bee

Best? JDM Integra Type-R would be the "best" for acceleration...

How much high revving madness are you willing to put up with? Since you don't want to go VTEC I assume you just want some more pep in your car. The "LS" transmission will still give that to you if you want, and leave you with relatively low revs on the highway. I would recommend the B16 transmission though- more fun, and still cheap to find.

Thanks bro.
Now I have another question,
what would be a good ECU for the b20????

Straight up B18A ECU will work ok if you're trying to stay within your OBD revision- you can reprogram it easily too.

I think the B20 should have the OBD0 B18A Complete Intake Manifold too. Pretty sure the B20 IM is too tall. And you will need to re-wire some of the plugs on your harness to hook up to a B series. Is your CRX MPFI? If not....thats another conversion you need to do. Along with custom shift linkage and motor mounts. But the CRX will be a lot more fun to drive and bottom end of the power band will be much stronger than the original CRX set up.

I like the B16 Trans too but the 5th gear on the highway sucks. 4k @70mph

No my car isnt MPFI:(. Is this really important for the B20 or can it do without it for a while, or should i just wait and save more money for it? so far i have 1500 save up and according to my estimate thats enough for the engine, swap, and type R tranny. Idk if the MPFI conversion would cost more.:(:(

Look into it. There are literally dozens of threads on the MPFI conversion. Its not the cost...its the ability to follow the instructions and getting it done right. And YES you need it for the swap.

Multi-Port Fuel Injection (MPFI)

Yep I like the Ls trans. Got it with my B18b swap. Doing Ls Vtec now and keeping the trans. 3k at 70ish on the highway and 30-32mpg. I think the GSR trans is the best trans for a DD street cat. 1-2 gears same as Ls 3-5 a little shorter and only a littler shorter final drive. Good gearing that is slightly shorter than the LS but without the super short final drive of the Si and Type R trans'. Best of both worlds IMO.
