OK people this is one of those rare occasions that I might actually let you have some influence over my decision (maybe not)

I will be brining a turkey that will be getting deep fried for Thanksgiving next week
I have it narrowed down to 4 possible brine recipes...
this is where you guys come in...

1 --- the first contender is a "Basic Brine" by Alton Brown
Deep-Fried Turkey Recipe : Alton Brown : Food Network

  • 6 quarts hot water
  • 1 pound kosher salt
  • 1 pound dark brown sugar
  • 5 pounds ice
2 --- the second contender is the "Ultimate Brine for Turkey" by Malinda Lee
.:: FEATURED RECIPES ** 1.TURKEY BASICS <br>Including the Ultimate Brine ::.

  • 1 1/2 cups, Kosher salt
  • 1 1/4 cups, brown sugar
  • 10 whole cloves
  • 3 teaspoons, black peppercorns
  • 1 1/2 gallons (6 quarts) apple juice or cider (non-alcoholic)
  • the peel from one orange or one tangerine (colored part only - not white pith)
  • [optional: 3 teaspoons, dried thyme and/or 3 teaspoons, dried sage]
3 --- the third contender is a "Citrus Turkey Brine" by Gary Glen
Citrus turkey brine - Chicago barbecue | Examiner.com

  • 2 gal water
  • 1/2 gal apple juice
  • 1 cup lemon juice
  • 1 cup lime juice
  • 12 oz can frozen orange juice concentrate
  • 1 cup dry white wine
  • 1-1/2 cups kosher salt
  • 2 cups white granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 6 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ground sage
  • 1 tablespoon Hungarian or smoked paprika
  • 4 bay leaves
4 --- the fourth contender is another "Ultimate Brine Recipe" by Bob and Mathew Merritt
Best Ever Fried Turkey

  • 1 1/2 gallons COLD water (6 quarts)
  • 1 1/2 cups Kosher Salt
  • 1 1/4 cups dark brown sugar
  • 10 cloves
  • 3 tablespoons freshly cracked black peppercorns
  • 1 tablespoon dried sage
  • 2 teaspoons dried thyme (or 5 to 6 fresh sprigs)
  • 4 to 6 bay leaves
  • 3 to 4 fresh rosemary sprigs
  • 2 to 3 lemons quartered
  • 2 to 3 oranges quartered

of these 4 recipes which one should I go with?
or do you have some other recipe that kicks the balls off of all of these that I should go with instead?

Number 3, citrous flavors seem to stand out the most and i think out of all of them, that one would be the most 'tastey' choice.

#2 but drop the sugar since the cider is going to be plenty sweet. I'm from the school that good food doesn't need too much razzmatazz but a littel can't hurt

On a very side note, can we just give E a fucking solar system of rep, like in monopoly when you trade in all your houses for hotels. Just take all his jew stars and give him a fucking galaxy?

:lmao:

kicking this back up... voting stays open til Tuesday

i didnt read the title right the first few times i looked at this and thought it said turkey bringing thread, and kept thinking why the fuck do we care who brings you turkey. now that i got that out of the way i vote number 4

I voted number four since its the closest to what we do with our turkey. But it seems its been outnumbered lol
