So, we're all supposed to write a 8-page paper on any topic pre Civil War. Initially, I chose to do Native American influence on "America" but seems like there's not much information on the topic or at least I can't write 8 pages about it.

Anyone have any good ideas on topics during or before the Civil War? Paper is due tuesday btw; I procrastinated the hell out of this one :(

Write about Andrew Jackson and his opposition to the 2nd bank of the United States.

Strap yourself in... as we now have a national bank. Old Hickory was very much against this for reasons which Ben Bernanke makes quite clear to us on a daily basis.

That's interesting; I already did the report on the supreme court ruling: McCulloch v. Maryland...and never thought about looking more into it.

8 pages? That's it? I could sit on the toilet and write 8 pages about "the great debate" in 20 minutes. Lol

Write about how today's tea party compares to the original tea party. Hell, you can probably go online and fine one already done for you. It's a recent enough topic that you will find a ton of info.

You could write 8 pages about the 1st revival and America, 2nd revival. Spanish American War. FUCK. I could write 8 pages about telling you about writing 8 pages.

On 95B16coupe's tangent, FUCK THE TEA PARTY. They've been denounced by their founders already. Biggest puppet project yet. The worst part is, the supporters have no idea and are completely blind.

I don't think I can write about recent topics; instructor specifically said topics during the Civil War and earlier.

I'm not bad at writing papers, as long as I have enough information. I mean I did 3 pages easy on just the ruling in McCulloch v. Maryland; if I do national banks I can throw that in there. The Federalist Debates seem interesting too; but i just need a relevant thesis(which is what I'm bad at).

it's not really a recent topic. it's actually the first topic of american liberation. write about that and litter in some new stuff and you're golden. i think you will actually do better on the paper because you would have a greater insight and understanding of how america got to where it is. :shrug2:

your call dude, just brainstorming. I was just thinking of something that would be fast and have a lot of current information online. do a quick google of "tea party" and you'll get a lot of stuff. just don't copy and paste from wiki. lol

Tea Party movement - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Write about Thomas Jefferson Vs The Federalist's: The Federalist Debates

This.

If I ever had the option to use this topic I would, just because even though I don't know a ton about the topic, what I do know is interesting and if I spent the time I definitely think an 8 page paper can be written on it.

Haha, no! Doing it right now; I've got an outline done so it should be done in about 2 hours. I burned time looking for books on it since she wanted different sources of references; library only had one book and all together maybe about 3 books on the subject in this county.

if it wasn't for the last minute, i wouldn't get anything done....

is it a research or opinion paper?

anyway, maybe do something that you're interested in? for instance if you like politics you can write about the "Son's of Liberty." Or if you're more into science, you can perhaps do "Yellow Fever of 1793." Similarly, you could write about the "Industrial Revolution" if econ is your thing.

itll be much easier if you write about something you care about. and a good hint for resources is use the links in wikipedia :p most of the time the references are from books and such.

Mostly research I guess, we have to have some sort of thesis/argue a point.

I wish you would have chimed in earlier; lol. I thought about the Industrial Revolution since I'm familiar with the topic; though I haven't heard of the Yellow Fever of 1793.

I know plenty of topics but what's hard for me is to find a thesis regarding those topics. I can inform just fine, I'm just not good at proving points without given a point to argue.

haha my bad, didnt see the initial post date.

yeah having a good thesis is difficult for me as well. i find brain storming with other people helps immensely.

Thanks anyway; I already have an outline and information regarding Federalism, so I will just write about that; though my thesis is pretty weak. So far I just have "Federalism would lead to the loss of individual and states rights."....any help on spicing it up?

mm that sounds good already. just throwing something out, but maybe:

"Federalism inhibits the expression of individual and states' rights."

That sounds pretty good, I hope you don't mind if I use that.

As of right now I think I'm writing a little too much; I have 6 main topics and so far I've used 3-4pages on 1 topic.

edit:  paper was only supposed to be from 4-8 pages.
