Down here in Tyler visiting the womans family for turkey day, and we're thinking of moving here.. Honestly the only reason we're considering it is the economy. It seems there's still houses being built, which is a necessity for me being a carpenter. If anyone can speak up about the area here, or if you know of somewhere else, please do..

Not sure about Tyler, but down here in Corpus home building has slowed, but the guys across from our shop crank out cabinets all day everyday for local contractors, so there's still work going on.

i know one thing about TX from watching HGTV you can get a mansion for like $250,000 or a really really nice house for $200,000. I would be worried about the heat

I know nothing other then to research your decision very carefully, but looks promising

Tyler is a shithole. I grew up not too far from there. I'd advise against it.

Now DFW on the other hand is a great place, and definitely still growing and there are tons of houses still being built here.

Yeaaahh... not Tyler. Small town super deep east Texas. Not as small as some of the places I've lived, but it's still not city living.

Depends on the area. Parts of Houston and Dallas metro get pretty pricey, but major cities still have good cheap places to buy and live.

then youd have to change your screen name to texassteerkiller..

Why would HGTV Build it's 2005 Dream home in Tyler. Then again if it's a shithole then it must be dirt cheap so that could be a reason

Its a very small, extremely rural city, about 200 miles from anything lol, so I'm willing to bet its cheaper.

Thanks for the responses! Not too sure about it here.. so far the people aren't bad, I've found the high level of homes I work on.. But the weather is definately too warm for my liking, maybe I'll just crank up the AC and take weekend trips. I"ll check into the dfw area too.

I'd say if you're thinking about moving down to Texas, definitely stay DFW area, or Austin. You can find some REALLY nice, inexpensive areas in the east, buuuut, you're still in east Texas.
