...has a job!
So I discovered that a friend of a friend has a Triton V10 out of an 01 F250 Van with the automatic trans and all the wiring. Dude wants $400 for all of it.

I currently have a 351 Windsor that I'm converting to carburetion and will be using an m5od manual trans with.

Oh and this is for my '57 F100.

So do I grab the V10 for the balls factor or stick with the 351 for simplicity and reliability.

Here are some pros and cons as I see them:

351 pros: simple, cheap, reliable, four wires, simple fuel delivery system, classic good looks and performance, no rats nest of wiring, will use w/ 5 spd trans

351 cons: shitty HP (225 factory but can probably get it into the low 300s on factory heads), tuning carburetion

V10 pros: br00tal power 362hp/457ft/lbs, balls factor

V10 cons: EFi rats nest of wiring, weight gains, chronic problems with triton motors, more expensive parts, need high pressure efi fuel delivery, etc.

I'm leaning towards the 351, which I already have. But, the V10 is intriguing.

Weigh in...

before i vote, on a scale of 1-10 difficulty of installing and making operational, how do they rate?

we have those v-10's in a few of our work trucks and they are junk. not enough power and plenty of problems

I'd go with the classic motor and try to build it before you put it together so it had some "mean" factor and didn't get ripped out right after you got the whole thing going.

It would probably be cheaper and easier to build the 351 than to get the v10 in there.

351 is a 2

V10 is an 8 or 9...a 15 if I try to tuck all the wiring lol

Well they do have a ton of power but your work trucks are geared like work trucks and probably weight 7000 lbs. As far as known problems, they blow plugs out of the head but it is an easy fix.

yeah you can get the 351w to way over 300hp with some simple bolt-ons .

Over yes...waaay over no.

I think I'll stick with the 351 only because I really want a simple 5 speed trans that is not expensive to replace. The M5OD out of the late model F150s is just that. I REALLY DON'T want an automatic.

Well 9 votes for the 351 and 0 for the Triton. That's what I was thinking. Thanks for the affirmation lol

in order to the the 01 happy, you're going to need to obd2 the truck.. lol just through the carb motor in dude. this shouldn't even be a poll

I voted for the Triton. IDK why. Then again, I don't like most Fords anyway. Don't know very much about them. After reading everyone elses, go with the 351.

Well ya but not in the Honda sense. It is a body off street rod build so as of right now, there isnt a single wire in the vehicle. I have to get a Painless harness or make my own so installing any motor with the correct harness and ecu is a requisite.

I agree with everyone else. My goal is to not have a single exposed or visible wire. So, the 351 bbl would certainly lend itself to that. ;)

I was only considering the Triton for the ZOMG factor.

I understand the zomg factor man.

Scenario.

You pull up to a buddy's house in the beast. He is like zomg, that sounds awesome, pop the hood.

Then a v10 triton is underneath.

the windsor might still do it.

i say the Triton v10 for the shock factor. it would be an interesting thing to see at a show because that would be another reason people would check out your truck but then you would probably get alot of questions asked...lol.

painless kit or not, the ecu is still going to want stuff like cat's, evap, etc etc that simply don't lend them self into a 1957 pickup.

:withstupid: especially if hes going for a clean, wireless appearance. too much shit involved with emissions to keep it all clean looking (at least without it being a complete PITA)

I have an 01 Excursion w/the V10, its good for towing but thats about it...but its also hauling around a 9000lb chassis

the engines been fine, no issues....its the rest of the truck thats falling apart

True story. I agree 102%

Ya the truck's weight would be a factor for sure. You need a motor that large just to get out of your own way.

I think I'll stick with the 351
