So i am trying to figure out this android system,. I downloaded Advancedtask killer, it shows all the apps that are running, i select them and kill them and they disappear off the list. When i Run taskkiller again, they all reappear without me ever opening them.

What am i missing?

I dunno. I hated Advanced task killer for my phone, it did exactly what you say it is.

Just go to Settings -> Applications -> Running Services

Touch to stop whatever is running.

That usually works best.

Task Killer will kill your batteries because it will keep opening the programs after you close it(I don't think 2.1 had this "problem"). Most recommend to just leave it alone as Android manages the memory by itself and if more space is needed, it closes the programs itself.

Yeah 2.1 does the same thing. I keep having the same problems with mine. I think the android system kind of sucks. well at least mine does.

It's really not an issue; but I ended up rooting my phone and running a "stripped down" version of Android 2.2

Spot on.

Phone OS's do not run the same way as a true desktop OS. All of those programs "running" are just sitting in RAM waiting to be accessed. Killing and re killing them will drain your battery because it has to load the application and update whatever content you want to be displayed.

what did you use to root 2.2

I used a program called unrEVOked which makes rooting VERY easy(literally roots with the click of a mouse); though I believe this program is only for HTC Android phones.

Rooting just gives you "Super user" administration level so you can change the OS, kernals, etc. The actual OS/Kernal I'm using is Virtuous. It should be noted that rooting voids the warranty but, in the case of HTC phones, it's reversible.

I'd have to do some research for Moto-Droids but there should be just as much support for those phones as the HTC phones.

most apps have options on default to 'load when phone boots'. you can disable most of these by unchecking those settings and rebooting the phone.

hmm interesting.
I have my phone set to kill tasks every 15min. or so.

Battery has never really been an issue although when i close some programs and re-open Adv. Task Killer maybe one or two may pop back up. even on the 2.2 version I now have

Also, would like to say my battery life did improve since adding the task killer. (from when I bought it. That and runs cooler as well.

you guys must have alot of stuff!

Taco which phone are you using? From my understanding the HTC Evo and Incredible(which is what I have) were the main ones, in only ones, that "suffered" after the 2.2 update. I don't think I heard any issues regarding the Motos and Nexus.

I had ATK, but it wasn't set to "Auto-kill" so that wasn't an issue, but the battery would last less than ~12-16hrs with barely any use(after the 2.2 update). Some people found it it was multiple issues(Amazon MP3, network stuff, etc. along with ATK) that was contributing to accelerated battery drainage. Anyway after all of the "mods" I did I can get over 24hrs up time with moderate use; though I also installed a larger battery from the HTC Evo(1300mAh vs. 1500mAh).

If you're not running into battery or memory issues; don't worry about running ATK.

well as of today my battery has lasted a little longer since i deleted ATK, a battery widget, and a media volume widget. since monday my battery would be dead by 10-11 am from when i take it off the charger at 7:30 am. The battery is half used now but not totally dead, a little better improvement but still should be getting low this soon.

so your battery is only lasting about 2.5-3hrs? That's a huge issue!

yeah it is bad. but i take back what i said battery just went dead. I think this started when i dropped my phone on the ground when my dumb ass left it on my lap when i got out of the truck... stupid me i lost a phone a few years back cause of that but it fell in the snow and i didnt hear it hit so later on at work i noticed my phone was gone. damn i need to quit leaving it on my lap...

I'm using the Moto Droid 1.

I'm getting used to the update changes. The battery lasts all day now instead of 2 day. :( It's not the update, it's the angry bird's game. ^_^

I've been really messing around with the phone learning how to do some of the cewl stuff with these phones

I rooted my phone with Z4root and then Deodexed it using 928Droid Themes for Droid X

Then Installed:

Droid X Bootstrapper
Super User
ShootMe
Installed ROM Manager
Titanium Backup

Currently running Rummy RX ROM

Pretty nifty shit you can do on these phones even overclock them.

Downloaded Quandrant and ran a benchmark test on my phone

whats Quadrant for? i d/l it and ran the benchmark.. came up w/ 1355.. not sure of the importance of that number though.. unrooted Droid2

Pretty much just how well your phone performed given the tests it ran, the higher the better

Yeah your phone stomps on mine performance wise, lol. At stock clock speeds and just a difference ROM/Kernal, I'm about where the Droid X 2.2 is.

I use SetCPU btw to set CPU speeds for different parameters. For instance; if I'm not doing anything it'll clock down to 275MHz; same if the phone is "off". Otherwise, it jumps up to 1GHz. If the battery is low I have it set at 745MHz tops.
