Speedometer wrong in EF hatch with LS swap

Hey guys, maybe someone here can lend some insight.

In my EF hatch, my speedometer is way off. It reads higher than my car is actually moving. The amount it's off varies depending on speed. If I'm doing city cruising around 30-40 mph it might read 5-10mph faster than my car is actually going. When I get up on to the highway it gets worse and could read as much as 15-20mph off.

I have 14in wheels. they aren't the stock ones but the stock ones are the same size i believe.

B18a engine and Tranny w/ cable VSS.

Does anyone know what could be causing this?
I don't know if its related but my car also Revs around 3.5k-4K when doing 65-70mph on the highway. Is that normal for the LS tranny? I thought I was supposed to have the longer gearing that kept the rev's lower.

Thanks
I appreciate any Input.

Yeah sounds like you have a B16 transmission.

Is the speedometer reading high or low? Also, what are your tire specs(rim may be the same, but it's possible your tire is much taller than stock...though most EFs came with 13 wheels).

Hmmm, the guy I bought it off of said it was an LS tranny but I suppose he could have been wrong. Would it say b16 on the tranny or am I lookin for somethin else?

The speedometer is reading higher than my actual speed. Ill have to look at the tires later to see what the size on em is.

If it's a B16 transmission it may be worth it to hold onto. Or, you can sell/trade it for a LS transmission and have some cash left over.

I actually wanted to get a b16 transmission anyway so I'd def hold on to it. I don't mind the rev's I just thought maybe something was wrong. I'll have to wait till my day off to pull it down to the garage and take a look under it and see what it is.

Ok got my tire size

195/60/14
When i run these wheels my speedometer is 5-10 mph HIGHER than my actual speed during city driving and 15-20 higher during highway driving (65-70mph)

I also have a set of 15 inch wheels that i was running tire size of
195/55/15
When I run the bigger wheel size it's still a problem but its not as severe, It seemed like my speedometer reads right around 5mph to high during city driving and right around 10 mph to high during highway driving.

I know wheel size can affect speedometer readings, but shouldn't a larger wheel cause my speedometer to read lower than my actual speed?

Edit:I'll check out my tranny tomorrow since I'm off work and I have to rotate my tires so i'll be in the garage anyway.

That's weird as with the 195/60-14s, it should be reading slightly slower(about 2.5%)

Yes, a larger tire would result in the speedometer reading too slow. I'd suggest swapping speedometers if you can.

You mean just get a new speedometer or like, look for a b series speedometer like out of an LS or whatever matches my tranny?

Speedometer from another CRX. You can use a speedometer/gauge cluster from a Integra or something but you'd need to switch to a electric VSS.

You mean another civic or specifically a CRX? I have a civic hatch. So i would need to get the whole gauge cluster?

Civic or CRX shouldn't matter, though the 90-91 CRXs have a different shape.

Yes, you'll need the whole gauge cluster. Though, it may be possible to just swap the speedometer(I don't have any 88-91 clusters on hand to check).

Okay, thanks a ton. I'll keep my eyes open for one to pop up.

Edit: I'd give ya some rep but apparently I've already done so recently so it wont let me.

Finally got around to looking for any markings on my tranny today and couldn't find anything. I keep reading that it's on a sticker on the front of the tranny, so maybe my sticker fell off or something. I guess I'll never know for sure what i've got :/ .

Lol my car does the same thing.. 92 civic with the b16sir2... the faster you go the higher the speedometer reads.. 55mph speedo reds 65 and so on. I just figured it was because it was a jdm engine and they dont use mph.. Also i noticed the gear on the vss was dirrerent than my previous engine so maybe that has something to do with it.
