I have a 1993 integra i bought it from a guy on craigslist and he fucked me over. i was told it was in great running condition. the engine blows so i need to change it and the tranny. any suggestions? or walk throughs?

im a teen so i just want it to be a fun daily driver thats reliable. ive been working on cars all my life with my dad but this is our first asian car ( alot different then his 1970 mach1) i only want to spend 1k on parts seeing how we can do the labor ourselves

Just get a new stock motor for it then, and some bolt ons, I,H,E and some other power adders..

Intake Header and Exhaust is IHE

In today's Honda Scene.....and based on you being upset about the sell.....I would suggest you take a bunch of pictures of the motor/wiring....load them on a share site like Photobucket and post them here so we can see the motor and engine harness wiring. Do you know the motor in it? Do you know what the stock motor is suppose to be? What is the motor doing or not doing?

It may be salvageable or it might need a new motor.

In my opinion Do Not Worry About ANY Power Adders until it runs correctly. My dad always told me that's putting the cart before the horse.

the stock motor is supposed to be the b18a1 i will post pics later tonight when i get home/ the engine is making a big tapping sound like its coming from the lifters, the car idles horribly it bounces from 1000 rpm to 3000 even in park. When im in gear i dont even have to give it gas but it will drive and even shit out of 1st gear. sometimes the car doesnt start up but ive read online that i should just need to replace the fuel pump for that. When i finally do start the car after one of these bad spells it sometimes shuts off as if the gas stopped flowing

Look into Idle Air Control Valve (IACV) there are threads on cleaning it and this might help the bouncing/hunting idle

Find it (on Intake Manifold near firewall).....disconnect the wire plug, the bolts holding it to the Intake Manifold and the two coolant lines. If it looks dirty....Clean it with some Carb cleaner thoroughly (maybe 2-3 times) and let it dry well before re-installing it

Not sure on the fuel pump being bad but it might be. You can also listen when you put the key to the "ON" position. You should hear the fuel pump click (noise from rear of car) and the main relay should make a click or two (under the dash....somewhere...not sure about your DA). See if it does it when it starts and THEN see if it does/doesn't do it when it dies on you

can anyone actually help me? are there any engines that would work with my trans withought any alteration...im to lazy i just want a plug in engine

so go to your nearest acura dealer... and buy a BRAND NEW engine... it'll plug right up!!!

did you do a compression test? check the coolant level? if its too low, the sensor cant get a reading and it does that high low idle. have you changed the fuel filter? does it have oil? have you changed the oil? how many miles? did you check valve lash? might want to check these out before swapping an engine out... the b18a1 is decent for starting out.. better than a sohc non vtec d civic.... quit being lazy and check out your car dude..

If you don't want to diagnose it AND have $600-800.....get yourself a B18B1 with low miles or a JDM B18B. Put your complete Intake Manifold, Alternator and distributor on it and you should be good to go with a reliable motor.

i have a 92 integra gs with a ls b18a1 out of a 93... and i want to put a b20 non vtec head on it shaved .020 mils and blox racing intake manifold and a 68mm trottle body and a header how much hp is this?

im going to start neg repping the hell out of people that come into tech threads and dont try to help. if you dont have anything productive to say, then just keep it to yourself.

to the original poster:
if the engine popped and you are limited to $1,000, your options are going to be limited.

you can:
1)find a used replacement longblock, save the $$ that you wouldve spent on the transmission on freshening the engine up and maybe some bolt ons (intake, etc)
2) buy a replacement engine and transmission (if you really need one), freshen the engine up and swap it in there.

the direct replacement is going to be your best option IMO. there will be no wiring to do, you can retain the stock mounts, linkage, ecu, etc. and still have a running vehicle.

this being a 93 integra, it should have a b18a in there. those are fairly easy to come by for cheap. start checking your local craigslist/scrapyards/forums etc for engines for sale.

I did give negative rep to slicknick!!

I also think A B18A1 is the easiest swap (as long as its the OBD1 version)

But I also feel its an older motor. Plus I also believe that B18B's are in more abundance with fewer miles. He can do like I said earlier and have a nice set up (with new timing belt, water pump, etc) for the $1000 budget
