if the guy pulled the motor and rebuilt it and now it has to come back out i'd say he's a lost cause, and so is that POS jeep

Cherokees are the ultimate vehicle. A truck suspension on a car frame, a back seat that only fits petite women, a cargo space that when you fold the seat down just happens to perfectly fit an air mattress, an engine that doesn't actually generate horsepower, just torque, and styling that says fuck you I'm a rectangle because rectangles just fucking work, they don't have to look nice.

My dad had 2 cherokees... both manual tranny with the 4.0 motor and on the fly 4 wheel drive. Sick for the early 90s.

My second car was a 2001 XJ 4.0L inline 6 with 176,000 miles on it when I got it, Before I sold it it had 213455 on it and was STILL running like a champ. Cherokees are awesome suv's that can take just about any shit you dish out on them.

I dunno, I love my Cherokee. Just enough room inside to carry some stuff, bigger things can go on the rack on top. Wranglers are nice as well, but I hate the lack of any cargo space at all.

Awesome, and very true. The damn thing is like driving a brick down the road, and even a slight crosswind can make the drive scary. I still won't get rid of it until I've driven the thing into the ground with no hope of repair.

That's not to say I don't want to get a more comfortable car at some point, it's just that the XJ will stick around as a toy.

Yup, mine's an 01 w/ the 4.0/AW4/231/8.25 combo. Had 91,000 on it when I got it in '05, and now it has about 220k on it. I had to replace the head earlier this year because my dumbass didn't keep the cooling system up to par and overheated it. Now it runs like a champ, and the bottom end shouldn't need work anytime soon so it will hopefully go to 300k without anything major.

you change the front, then you change the rear, then you change the front again, then you change the rear again
my local yard says they're like gold and sell like hot cakes

Does everyone have rust holes in their diff covers?

I've put over 100K on mine and don't know how many before I got it.
 
I like them, had a 95 with the 318ci. in it with close to 300k and still ran like a scolded dog... put it in 4 lo and it would break your neck..
 
Yeah I was gonna say that, but didn't want to sound stupid and say the wrong model...
 
The grand cherokee really needs the V8 to match the 4.0 cherokee.
The 4.0 grand cherokees feel kinda gutless.
