i'm guessing the paint got so cold it turned into a sheet of paper. expansion and contraction of the door would probably cause minor movements in the interior areas of the door, as opposed to the outer parts that are hinged and on the handle side.

Yeah, that was pretty much what I thought, but the radii and even spacing where what had me stumped. I guess that's just the way it fractured, but I wonder what caused it.

it's possible the door could have been imperfect before it was painted. it could have been hit several times with a hammer. could have been abused before/during/after installation. hell, it could have been hit with someone throwing ice at it. picture a windshield and the circular effect of how they shatter and spiderweb.

Its mother fuckin Dupont Jesus!!! Quick, get that damn thing on eBay

Paint didn't adhere to the metal surface (probably used latex) and expansion/contraction caused it to come undone from the door.

Latex probably not the issue. I have seen regular house paint hold to these doors. Type of brush would not matter. The door was rolled, you can see the stipple on the peeled paint. Its an adhesion problem, the guy didnt prime it or used the wrong type of primer. Most likely it gave out more in the center due to more expansion and contraction.

I'm going with this guy. Improper prep of surface and lack of primer to stick to metal to adhere the paint(regardless of oil vs latex).

more expansion and contraction.

This is it. The door’s center is going to have different structural qualities than the ends of the door, allowing for more expansion/contraction under stress and temp inconsistency.
