Ok, so I had a G1 and loved it, minus the web browsing. The lack of Flash Player support was what it killed it for me. After that I got a HD2 and it was the worst phone Ive ever had. But, the web browsing was great. It was just like bein on a computer. No red x's or question mark boxes like the G1. Too bad the rest of the phone was soo shitty lol.

So, now that the HD2 has completely shit the bed, Im lookin for a new phone with good call qualities, and a very capable web browser. Features that are a plus, but not required would be use as a mobile router, good screen resolution, easy syncing with google (mail, contacts, and calendar) and one with a decent Facebook app would be cool. Android would also be a plus. Not at all worried about camera, video chating, or anything else really. Just want a phone that doesnt freeze, sends a recieves calls and texts without issue and surfs the web without issue.

I have T-Mobile, but Im not opposed to gettin an unlocked phone.

So what recomendations do you have?

I love my Droid X, I don't mind it's "bigness". Fits fine in my pocket. I watch movies on it, listen to music, surf the web, in full, thanks the flash, with ease. Can install anything i want on it(after it's "rooted"). I can customize with new ROMS for new looks and features. Not sure there is a better phone out there. The only thing it lacks is a front facing camera but i don't use Skype so don't need it. I like that i can replace the battery if needed or keep a spare fully charged as well

Android seems like your best option as far as the Google implementation and Flash support goes.

I have the Droid Incredible(rooted) and no issues with it at all. Only issues I've heard so far, concerning the HTC Incredible and Evo upgrading to 2.2 is the battery life takes a hit(I haven't kept up with what's causing it but a new ROM stripped of unwanted apps seem to fix that problem).

a few days ago i got a droid2 global. great phone. has a physical keyboard, awesome processor, takes decent pics, alerts you of facebook, emails, updates and such as if it were a text (it shows up in the little task bar) and it has worked flawlessly thus far.

the only downside to the phone is the battery life. there are solutions though, i rooted mine and got set cpu for root users. i then underclocked the processor to conserve battery. the phone still works flawlessly, and the battery will last me through a day of moderate browsing/streaming media without being stuck on the charger all the time.

i also recommend you get launcher pro if you dont feel like messing with any of the custom roms

i'd wait for the new phones to come out in the spring and summer. new smartphones will have dual core processors wich are suppose to increase battery life, by how much is anyones guess

Isnt Android 2.2 a new OS? How is it versus the original Android stuff? Maybe I got my facts wrong though.

Im not too worried about battery life, if I was I wouldnt be lookin at smart phones lol.

I had a third party ROM on my HD2 and loved it. What are the third party ROM's for like the Android platform? Lots of choices?

How easy is to do all that shit you mentioned Matt? Or, how easy is it to fuck the phone by doing that lol?

I have the samsung incredible through sprint, does good for what I need, and it just updated itself to the android 2.2.1. I like the newer system, runs better that the older one imo..

It's newer, but not exactly new. IIRC, Android 3.0 is about to be released(so it may be worth the wait). 2.2 was release last summer though some phones still haven't got it(I think Fascinate is still 2.1).

Here's the changes from 2.1 to 2.2: Android 2.2 Platform Highlights | Android Developers

Rom options depend on what phone you have; but Cyanogen is pretty popular and available for many Android phones. Everyone who runs it, loves it. Though, there's a large variety of kernels to pick from too.

One thing to look into is the Windows 7 phone. I haven't done much research, but I love the interface. Though of course, some people have ROMs for Androids that make it like the Windows 7 or even iPhone GUI.

I really liked the GUI on Wondows Mobile 6.5. So much so that I looked for a cooked ROM that had a very close to stock layout. But there were soo many problems with things not workin right, or freezing the phone that I just wanna go back to the Android platform that never gave me any problems from the get go.

Ill have to start lookin at ROMs for Androids and see whats out.

Anyone have any input on the myTouch 4G?

Lmao, Ive got one in gray floatin around my house somewhere. Even got the car kit too. Welcome to 1990.

I had a G1 as well, and upgraded a few months ago to the G2. It's night and day. 4G capable, Flash Support, Android 2.2, etc. The thing that sold me was the physical keyboard. Some people don't care, I do.

My wife has a Mytouch 3G and she HATES it. Not sure that would be a reflection on the 4G version but I would stay away.

I thought Android 3.0(honeycomb) was aimed more for Tablets and devices with 7"+ screens?

Edit: Didnt notice your HD2 shit on you... :(

Ya, the HD2 is out. And I had soo many problems with shit not workin that I wont be gettin another one. I want to get a phone that works well outa the box, that way I can flash ROMs or do whatever but still be able to revert to stock and not have a bunch of problems.

Whos your service provider? Ya, Ive got a friend that had the myTouch 3G and he returned it. Said it sucked. Now hes got the new 4G and loves it. Hes not much of a tech person though, so he cant really tell me why its soo nice to have. Hes hung up on the front facing camera lol.

Ive heard one little blip about it running on phones. Didnt really look into it though.
