It's only stupid if it doesn't work

My car is just too loud. Maybe after I get another vehicle I'll reinstall a performance system, but for the time being I need to get the noise down for commuting. Was thinking about just a Type R axle back. Well in searching I came across these.

Replacement Center Muffler Natural, Steel, OE replacement

Replacement Muffler Natural, Steel, OE replacement

Now they say they are direct replacements for the GSR or Type R, so does this mean I can get a brand new Type R/GSR cat-back for about $150? Or do you think this is just a smaller, more restrictive system that will "fit" a Type R/GSR?

^^^ this

it is also likely to rot to hell in a year or 2
but its also only $150... and you cant even get the Typr R axle back piece for that

get some flat black high temp rustoleum and spray the whole damn exhaust... might buy you some more time

if you are mostly looking for something quiet to get you through for now, id say get it... that price is hard to turn down

Ordered it Friday night. Hopefully it gets here this week. I have to drive up to VT and don't feel like being deaf on arrival.

Will do. I hope it comes tomorrow, but I have tons of other stuff to do before I leave on Friday morning.

Figured I'd update this. Exhaust had a great note after install. Slightly louder than stock. Probably a similar note to a stock Type R, but I've honestly never heard a stock one. Didn't "wear in" and get louder like other systems I've had did.

This system was/is great. E called it though. On the way to work this morning the exhaust tip fell out of the muffler(rust). It sounds like I'm running an open pipe now. The welds rusted where the tip attached to the body. A little paint probably would have bought me some time.

For what I paid, It lasted almost 3 years. And that's without any extra work done to it. I'm happy enough that I just ordered another axle back. I'll get some high heat rustoleum on it this time and see if that buys me any extra time.

Like I said, happy enough to be buying it again. This is a great option for someone who wants to step down from their loud N1 or other exhaust that they once thought was cool. This actually even bolted to my 2.5" stainless midpipe, so the stock midpipe I bought the first time around is still sitting in the garage. I'd reccomend this product to anyone. Gets an A in my book. They'd get an A+ if I had the option to buy it in stainless.

Only reason I posted the update was because I had to find the thread to use the link, haha.

well thanks for not being a lazy fucker and providing an update... rep for you!

well your car is 16 years old....
Oh, I thought you meant just the axle back. Header is the original. Cat could probably use replacing. Midpipe is a 2.5" stainless from a previous exhaust. Light surface rust, nothing I'm worried about. As for the age of the whole car, I have zero interest in getting rid of it. I fully intend on keeping it as long as possible. I just put a whole new suspension on with the help of Wil via text. I'm tackling small projects one by one so that they don't build up on me like they have in the past. Might be picking up a beater truck that will allow me to do more as well.

Surprisingly, the only part of the muffler that was rusted was where it broke. I threw on an old performance axle back I had for the time being. The ride home was deafening, so this will bring it down a little. Plus the bolts wont be stuck next time, haha.
