So I went on newegg to place an order for a 2x1gb memory set
I have an account so i go through the whole thing and hit place order

the next thing I know I have this on my screen, no pop-up, no new window, just from newegg to this
no sign of a newegg order confirmation or anything like that
newegg just bounced me to a 3rd party, being my credit card company
with this window saying I need to "sign up to complete purchase"

I checked my email and see an order confirmation so i called, and started a chat
and the consensus of both the phone call and the chat is that this is not something provided by them, its provided by my CC company, so they are not responsible for it

So buyer beware when placing an order from newegg

I had to do that for paying my phone bill online. Though, it doesn't cover the whole screen and is more colorful.

Unfortunately it was more than 500 characters so I just cut the end of it off until it would go through with my all poor ratings...

Thanks for bouncing me to a 3rd party site when I hit place order instead of giving me an order confirmation like every other website I have ever shopped at. And I'm real glad it says I must SIGN UP TO COMPLETE PURCHASE with no indication that I can decline, or return to newegg, or even that my order went through without me inputting my last 4 SSN, security code, exp date, and email address. Why not just ask for all my biometric info so you can have my finger prints, retinal scan and DNA. Your customer service rep was good at avoiding the issue and trying to place blame with my credit card provider, but it was your website in fact that redirected me to their "offer". He was courteous and offered all the text book explanations that you have prepared for him to offer, so its not his fault, but I am rating this all poorly in the hopes that someone who can change your business practice actually reads this. And I'll be sending this along to the BBB as well and anyone else that will listen. It also helps that I am a member of some very popular computing forums and will be sure to warn them of your dishonest business practices.

Ive shopped at newegg for years (since at least 2002) and ive never had a problem with them. They have the best customer service out of electronic store ive ever shopped at, especially for computer hardware.

A similar screen pops up asking password and username from Visa everytime i make purchase after the initial signup, but it also has my bank logo too. I take it as something similar to a pin number, but if youre really concerned then you should contact your bank/credit company as well.

Its an Anti-Fraud practice that Visa, Mastercard, etc.. do to make sure that online purchases are indeed authorized. Newegg didn't "bounce" you there, it was your credit card company that randomly requests an authorization, just to make sure nothing fishy is going on.

If you don't believe me call your bank. I've had this happen a few times while ordering online from different stores. I simply input the info it wanted to authorize the payment and went on my way. The first time I saw it I called my bank to see what had happened, and what I wrote above is what they told me. Sometime when the Auth. page comes up it doesn't always redirect correctly to the "comfirmed purchase" screen like it should...

I'd just calm down a little man...
 
it's a stupid practice. you shouldn't have to re-enter your credit card number. people will get used to this and then voila, credit cards are going to get stolen left and right because people see these popups as normal.

fry's easily has the shittest customer service and if youre not well informed, dont expect the sales people to know anything about computers either.

sure they have great prices, but the staff isnt very helpful and the ones who do know something, treat you like an idiot. for example, i went into to get some so-dimm RAM for my laptop. the sales lady repeatedly asked me if it was the right one and that maybe i was looking for desktop RAM.. i even told her the OEM of the RAM stick on my laptop including the timing and she just stared at me blankly (i wanted to test her knowledge).

anyway, i still think newegg is the best. the honor rebates that shit hole companies dont honor (MSI, Biostar, anything with my411Rebates) and honor price mistakes. the only thing that ive found them guilty of is dropping a price on an item and exclaiming sale! then inflate shipping so it comes out even anyway. but everyone needs to make a sale somewhere.
 
Newegg and a few other stores have done that for quite some time. It's from Visa, not your bank. Buy.com did it to me earlier today. No big deal, just skip it and you're good.
 
I love newegg, I've used them since 2005 and I've never had any problems with them except for the packaging for my laptop could have been a little better. Other than that, they are amazing with RMA requests. ^_^

as far as i'm concerned I was placing an order with newegg and got sent to this window asking for more info, and i'll be god damned if i'm giving up my last 4 of my ssn, and the security code on the back of the card to some random shit i have never seen before

you give up your government all you want
i chose not to expose myself to any more risk than is absolutely necessary
if i place an order on a website i want a confirmation, no mickey mouse shit

i won't even give my doctors office my SSN or my employer
thats need to know and you don't fucking need to know
mind your god damn business
you can call me paranoid, but as an accountant, i see this shit go wrong all the time and i see what clients go through trying to fix it when someone steals their identity

so they got the notice from the BBB
someone contacted me and then placed a fake order to see the process for themselves and its now up for review and they are offering me $25 off my next order
good for newegg
it was explained to me that the card companies themselves create the process, so they were not aware of how it actually worked until now
we'll see
 
Hes right. Slow down. Its not newegg. new egg doesnt redirect you, it was your card company. Call them, and walk them thru the process of what happened. They will tell you it was them.

Before you go slamming a reputable website, that I personally have spent over thousands of dollors with, has amazing RMA standards, they have some of the widest selection of electronics you could want.

I bought OCZ ram from them. Some one made a negative comment about OCZ on newegg on the website. OCZ responded to the comment on Newegg about their concern. If a company as big as OCZ is doing this on newegg, its for a reason. They are great at what they do.

ahhh, thats funny
cause today i placed an order under my work account, and i got a screen that said processing and in big bold

Verified by Visa and Mastercard Securecode users:

You will be redirected to your card issuer's website to complete account authentication.After completing any necessary steps you will be redirected back to Newegg.com.

and then the next window said the same enter your gov't etc
but then it offered these 2 options
ACTIVATE or DO NOT ACTIVATE NOW

and this was using a visa card
so apparently i had enough of a concern for them to change their business practices

and perhaps i am using the wrong term, but if i am on one site, and then end up on another site by clicking a link on site #1, i call that redirecting
