Has anyone here been to okinawa?.....i got my oders and im getting stationed in okinawa. Besides the earth quakes wich will probely keep us busy for a while does anyone know what there is to do or any helpful hints

Message airjockie. He was stationed in japan for years.

My advice, save every penny you can so you can buy a car there. Then get out to some of the carmgatherings. The scene is insane over there.

Next, start learning Japanese. Your quality of life will improve exponentially.

My brother lived there for awhile, said it was like a non stop vacation.
He lived right on the water, would open his backdoor and walk out onto sand.

Literally he use to strap his scuba gear on in the back yard and walk into the ocean.

Bone up on customs and social proccesses. Being an American overseas can be tough some times but if you make an effort to respect the jost countries traditions it can go a long way. Thanks for your service as well

Language and customs. Learn some Japanese and find out about customs. You might think you're being polite but you're being quite the opposite. Be it language, social interactions, etc... their way of thinking is completely different from what we're used to in many ways.

Just watch Fast and Furious Tokyo Drift. Then do the exact opposite of EVERYTHING the stupid white kid did.

I've got a buddy that is a Marine that was stationed over there for almost 2 years. I'll ask him, and see if he has any input.
