Where's the oil going?

Well I'm getting tired of putting in 3qts of mobile-1 sythetic every 1000 miles into by b16.
Could it be getting sucked through the pcv system?
my compression is good, 230psi on all 4, new valve seals 5k mi ago with a head gasket,JE pistons and rings have 25k mi on them and no leaks..

If I run it hard and then sit at a light i smell oil burning, so i'm thinking that when the pcv gets vacuum it's sucking oil from the breather.

Also if I coast down my mountain in gear 3-5k rpm without giving it gas, then get on it at the bottom it smokes like a bitch..

could this just be a shitty side affect of having cast pistons?

It's run great for 25k mi with this problem the whole time, it just bugs me since syn oil is $23 for 5 qts and i just burn it up..

any thoughts are appreciated.

Thats a head scratcher!!
In my experience oil either leaks out of your engine or into the coolant or through the rings or valve seals and gets burned. Bad rings and/or seals would also pressurize your crankcase and/or head with combustion by-products, contaminate your oil and blow cack oil into your intake via the breather(s)
230psi is healthy compression though.............
Install a cheap oil catch can and see what ends up there
Will tell you how much is going out that`way and might eliminate a variable
Even before you do that and spend money you could also pull off the intake manifold and check for oil on the valves or oil coming into the intake via the breathers

Let us know how you get on

I always thought when PCV valve had high vacuum (as in idle) it was meant to be closed but can't remember exactly. Look that 1 up

not true about the "no vacuum at idle" theory, at idle i can put my finger over the breather on the valve cover and it builds vacuum. pcv has 500mi on it.. i thought about a catch can, it hooks inline on the pcv breather hose correct?

I have the same problem and I'm wondering what it is. Its on my b20 vtec with a b16 head...its been smoking like crazy, especially when I hit vtec at 5500 rpms....clouds of smoke come out and its pretty embarrassing. I know I have a small oil leak but that doesn't account for the clouds of smoke that come out.

Who built the motor? Were the rings clocked correctly? Incorrect ring installation can cause excessive blowby. Cast pistons should have nothing to do with it. Stock pistons are cast.

my bad, forged je pistons. i built the motor myself, and clocked the rings per je's included instructions.

magana, so i should put a nipple in place of the pcv valve?
