I have about 20gb of music, a bunch of pictures, and a few movies on my laptop. But I don't think I've used up 120 of 140gb or memory. Is there a way to see what is using it all up? I've done disc cleanup and defrag already.

go to my computer. it should show you "C" and it's size vs available space.

You may need to just empty your recycle bin.

emails too. If you use thunderbird/outlook express/etc, it keeps a local copy on the computer.

this program will give you a piechart of your disk usage
Free Download Disk Usage Analysis Tool For Windovs XP&Vista&7

you will likely find that your winsxs folder is fucking huge
there isnt much that can be done for this
but running the built in compcln.exe tool should clear up a few gigs of space

other than that it will at least show you where all your space is going

No emails, recycle bin is empty. C: 13 of 139gb remain. So i know it's filling up.

Ill try what E posted and see how that works.

just go poking around in the C: drive. start at the root directory (C:\) then check the file size of each folder. if you find one thats freaking huge (that isnt also your data like vids and music and stuff) then keep going deeper until you find out what is actually taking up all the space.

if its system files dont touch it. report back what you find.

i let it slide. i knew what he meant.

when i read the title, i had a facepalm moment thinking it was going to be about some memory mfg who is jumping on the "HD" craze to sell memory. like omgz high definition memory for your PC! lol

:lmao: :withstupid: i had the same "high def" thought/facepalm... was so happy it wasnt that i was pretty much willing to let anything go at that point

ok nerds. i don't know that much about computers. lol

all i know is that my computer is slow as shit right now and i would like to blame it on my hard drive. i have deleted a bunch of files, ran disc cleanup and defrag, ran 2 antivirus checks, and it's still slow as dogshit. it's an older laptop, but it use to be way faster.

this is what i meant by anti-virus scan. i have malwarebytes, AVG, and spybot. i have malwarebytes on scheduled scans and run them periodically manually.
