Hey guys I'm new to this forum and im stoked on talking with fellow honda lovers.

Anyway, I'm having a problem with my newly built b20vtec. I was running the stock b20b motor for about a year and finally saved up enough scrill to go vtec. Now I bought a b16 head with around 80k on it and ferrea valves. Well me and my buddy (uti grad) swapped the heads, and after fixing timing problems and replacing seals, I'm sick of the motor. What makes it worse is now its smoking like crazy. I thought we hadn't put on the sandwich plate that converts oil to the head correctly, but after taking it in to get it looked at, it's on right. they said the head was sealed correctly as well.

1. When looking at the car, oil is leaing onto the exhaust underneath the car and causing smoke. The shop said my oil pan gasket needed replacing, but that doesn't really leek onto the exhaust.
2. When I get on it I look back and there's clouds of smoke coming out, but not out of the exhaust. Then when I sit at a light, theres more smoke coming up.

I have no idea what it could be. I was told it might be a clogged PCV system, but I'm not sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
 
What makes you say the oil pan gasket wouldn't cause a drip onto the exhaust? The only Honda motor I can think of that doesn't have exhaust wrapping around the motor are the Ks.
 
Well I just assumed this because with what I can see when looking under the car the amount of oil leaking from it doesn't account for how Mich smoke is coming out. Also, it seems like oil is coming from the middle of the motor around the oil filter. The oil pan is a little too far from the exhaust for the oil to have direct contact and cause smoke. I may be wrong though?
 
Did you double up on oil filter gaskets? Sometimes the old filter o-ring gasket will stick to the block. If you don't pull it off before installing the new filter, it will leak. If it leaks from there it WILL go strait onto the exhaust.
 
saw that happen to the fng at the shop where i work at.... but when you double gasket, it POURS out!!!!
 
I haven't tried doubling up the gaskets...I didn't even know you can do that. Are talking about the sandwich plate o ring or the oil filter o ring?

I'm talking about the filter O ring. And you do NOT want to double them up. It can happen accidentally.
 
Does it have a oil pressure sender ???? There usually near the oil filter on the f22
 
I just did my Vtec head swap and now after it sits for a while it smokes for a second on start up. That says to me valve seals but I had them replaced. Weird and annoying to have a a fully rebuilt head and strong block.

If your running a PCV valve DONT or run a catch can

plug the intake mani and just vent the crankcase. I was burning about 1/2 qt of oil a gas tank because of the pcv valve. bypassed it and solved that problem.

Yep. On Ls or B20 Vtec you need to run a crank case vent like and ENDYN one. I made my own and it works great.
 
I had the almost EXACT same problem on my ls ...

Follow your PCV system down to the back of the block about the mid area there is a black bock connected to the block or a hole?

My car didnt have the black box so it would just leak crazy amounts of oil onto my exhaust and smoke up. I couldnt tell where it came from

wait so if you dont have the pcv hooked up wont that mess up the motor?
 
You plug the hole were the black box goes and then right above there is a threaded plug. remove that and install a fitting. vent away from exhaust with rubber hose.
If I had a camera I would show you.

no why would it? Your plugging the hole on the intake mani so there is no vacume leak. I dont see how it would mess up the motor.
