So, I was given P90X as a birthday present recently. I opened it up and checked it out a little bit, but haven't really gotten in to it yet. So have any of you guys done it? If so, thoughts? Advice? I know it's not really a "get huge" type of deal, it's more of an overall fitness, tone up kind of thing, and I'm okay with that. I also know you need to be in some type of shape before you start the program, and I think I am (although I guess the fitness test they give you will tell me for sure).

I was thinking of maybe starting a progress thread with pics every week if there's interest...

if you're out of shape now, it's basically impossible.

I gave up when the one-legged man (with prostetic) kicked my ass on the leg/jumping routine. Talk about a motivational killer.

If you can do it and stick with it, it WILL work.

but it's bloody hard.

give it a shot. maybe it will encourage some of the keyboard jockeys here to get off their duff.

i know a LOT of people who started. i dont' know of a single person who finished.

Yeah, it's just too hard too fast.

the VERY first dvd you watch has something like 90-120 push ups and 60 pull ups.

i'm sorry, but the average IN SHAPE person probably can't do 60 pull ups.

I know one guy who has actually completed P90X he spent a good year as a gym rat before he did it though. It seems to have worked pretty damn well for him though.

I know a bunch who have started but only one that has finished. He's actually doing it again too. I actually planned on starting today. I think this thread has motivated me to get the final puzzle piece, a pull up bar, and start this thing.

i know 5 people who blew money on and not one finished, not even a whole month. i would never try it. I can however say I have no doubt at all that it works.

On a side note..., one of my buddies has just started "Insanity" but he is also one who tried P90x so he won't come close to finishing this either.

Well, I'm already a skinny bastard (5'11" and 155ish, 29/30 inch waist) that works out at least 3 times a week, and I try to eat well. I've already done the Power 90 videos and I can manage the advanced level on those, so if P90X is the next step up then I think I can probably do it, but I'm sure it will kick my ass at first.

EDIT: And I should add, I'm planning on doing the diet as well and trying to be strict about it. I definitely don't need to lose any weight, so I'm hoping that if I actually follow the diet and carb load when they tell you to then I might actually add a bit of size. We'll see though...

Who buys things

I hear instanity is actually harder than p90x cardio wise, but is easier muscle wise

I doubt you'll get the gains you want to see from p90x. If you have a hard time gaining weight, doing p90x will turn you into a skeleton, especially if you can actually do it.

You need to eat raw protein out of the can, like tuna, and lift heavy, and short reps.

I can do the workouts, maybe one every other day or so. I would suggest you get into shape before starting this. There is a reason why NFL athletes are buying and using this: it's legit.

Going from couch potato to P90X is impossible, you will burn out both physically and motivationally. Start a basic workout routine, cardio and resistance, and do it for three months. If you are still working out at the end of the third month you can start p90X and have one of those "life transforming events" people talk about or whatever.

yes this is good advice

A friend of mine did p90x, including their diets, and finished it. He lost a really good amount of weight during his time on the program. After the program finished he started going to a gym and eating food outside of the diet... he gained a few lbs back but his physique is still much much slimmer.

I think I should probably edit my original post. I'm not a fat ass right now or anything, and I can already do the original Power 90 on advanced levels, so it's not going to be a shock or anything. I was just wanting some thoughts from anybody that might have actually done the workouts or diet before as to their results...

I just finished the first 30 days of it before I left for my snowboarding trip a week ago. I did the diet with it, and let me tell you, if you are already skinny, you might what to modify the first month a little, because you are taking in less that 1000 Calories and burning off about 1400-1600 per workout.

I've shed 18 pounds, 4 inches around my waist, and I've got quite a bit of muscle definition compared to a month ago. Just be prepared for the diet to leave you hungry for the first week or two, but outside of that, I would HIGHLY recommend the workout, definitely worth ever second of it.

Ah, cool. See that's what I wanted to hear. Yeah, in that case I might have to modify the diet a bit, because I definitely don't want to lose any more weight. I like the Power 90 workouts though. They're fast paced and they seem to make my arms and chest look like they do after just a normal session of lifting and push ups, so I definitely want to try the P90X...

I tried the P90X, and I liked it, but I just don't have the personal motivation to push myself to keep doing it. I would end up sitting on the floor looking at the tv shaking my saying WTF... That's what pushed me to start going to Crossfit. It's a lot of the same basic mentality, just more weight lifting, in a gym with loud music, and people standing there cheering eachother on until everyone finishes the workout. I LOVE it. Good luck with the P90X- it's worth the time and effort if you will stick to it! :)

I was looking into it. I have insanity which is made by the same company. Its mainly cardo but I lost almost 30lbs in about 9 weeks. I went from 268 to 230. Also changed my diet. Which I think was great for working out about an hour a day 6 days a week. I want to try P90X to build muscle mass.
