Horses are taller than (whitetail)deer. I'd like to see pictures of the damage; because horses are also heavier than deer.

Just looked at it again; looks like the top of the hood is messed up pretty badly(looks like it was starting to come up/rattle off)

A car that sits close to the ground usually fairs better then something like a truck or SUV when it comes to hitting deer-sized animals. I hit a deer in my Accord, and it rolled up the hood of the car and then fell off the side with minimal damage to the car. My buddy hit a deer in his Ranger however, and that just demolished both the truck and the animal...
