I have just acquired a 95 civic lx with a d16b7 5 speed tranny. This car is completely stock and i am wanting to know what suggestions about what motor i should swap into it. I am building this car for all motor. And will be using skunk2 springs, and the usual IHE but i was gonna do a motor swap before i buy a bunch of stuff that will not be compatible for another engine. I am looking for somewhere around to 250hp range after everything is said and done. I have never swapped a motor before but i have own 3 Honda's and have done simple upgrades so i know i can probably do this swap fairly simple. I am looking for something that is somewhat simple but will still be a good upgrade. I will appreciate any input or advice on where i should go with this build.

I also forgot to mention that im in college and working part time so i dont want to go broke over this car. I can roughly spend 1000 to 1500 for this swap. Thaks

It would be easier to find a b18b for that price. But you are better off leaving it stock. I know that isn't fun, but you need something legit and reliable while you are in college. Build a racer when you have more money to spend.

the realistic honda forums. we're getting dull in our old oage.

ok, how about this....

you should grab a small block 302 and convert it to rwd. you can pick up a swap and drive train for about $500 if you shop around craigslist. you'll have tons of torque and be within budget.

Pretty much bolts right up. :D

But as said before a stock B would be pretty economical as far as price and power, that and 250 isnt going to be easy/cheap to do as well as taking away from the reliability.

Expecting 250 horses from a stock non-turbo'd swap with bolt-ons all for $1,500 or less is just not realistic, sorry. Like others said, you could probably get in to a B16 or B18B for that price, but even with intake, header, and exhaust, you're not looking at anything close to 250 horses...

Want 250hp NA? Get a K24 and spend 6x your budget.

Ok im sorry i wasnt more clear with my question...when this project is "Completely done" i wish to have around 250hp im well aware that i would never reach that goal without having a completely built motor and tuning out the ass. I was asking which motor would be the best platform engine for that hp goal and the best price for a novice mechanic.

I should also say that the car already has a mini me swap so a non-vtec motor may not be the best choice.

In that case I would say GS-R or B16, If you can do a mini-me either of those shouldnt be too much more difficult and are both a good base platform.

or simply save little extra cash pick up a nice turbo buy cheap turbo kit off ebay because all you need is the pipping and such get fuel pump injectors slap it together go tune and you will create over 200hp for cheap hell you could even push the little turbo up in psi stock d series motors handle boost really well i do believe but don't quote me the stock internals handle 300hp

I would say stay away from B16s just because they are gutless. I would go with a GSR or LS Vtec. I built a Ls Vtec and it is a good combo. I walk on B16s and GSRs.
