lol, love that quote from the spokesman:
"vehicle fires are often caused by reasons that have nothing to do with the vehicle."
What else would cause a fire under the hood of a stock car?

Honestly, those seem minor compared to the steering wheel falling off or in Toyota's case, the throttle being stuck open. As far as the number of Hondas, I guess it holds true what people say about Honda's track record.

It's big, but it's not going to cause an accident. Especially around here where our highways have a lot of turns, losing your steering wheel at 65mph is more dangerous than your motor cutting off. Even then, the fuel pump issue is in regards to fuel leaking out during a roll-over.

Read in your own quote. It was improperly installed, not improperly designed. It could have been a retarded worker or malfunction in a robot. Practically an isolated insident that GM actually has the balls to publicise before it became a huge problem, unlike some other manufacturers. 2100 vehicles seems negligible when compared to the 10s of thousands of Toyotas/Hondas of recent times.

Thats definitely true - there is a rise in foreign manufactured recalls, but part of it is because of the government entering the auto market... government inspectors subject their competition to more scrupulous inspection & oversight, leading to more recalls.

Additionally, knowing that the steering wheel's faults were due to its improper installation is scary - a car is only as good as the people who assemble it. Unionized workforce ftL.

Agreed, but that low of a number of vehicles recalled leads me to believe it was narrowed down to a day/week of production where maybe something was awry on the assembly line for some reason.

I never said anything about bad design; but really just poor that they let it get out(bad QC). When I worked at Caterpillar something similar happened(steering wheel came off and another instance where the seat wasn't bolted down); but luckily it was caught during testing/inspection and never got to the customer like that.

I'm sure they build on a much larger scale. You just can't look at every part of every car going out the door. It's just unrealistic at their production scale.

either way. with so many idiots buying cars theirs no way they will ever understand or care.

hell. if that was my family and it happened I would be raising some serious hell. shit i might even sue!
glad nothing happened but what if........

Their has been some serious re-calls from GM and many others in the last years....more often and more serious than what i would consider normal

It's doable; there should be inspections at every area/station; I've seen this at the BMW plant first-hand and they ship all around the world(the plant produced Z4s and X5s).

Yuuup. Parts are designed so that they go on one way and one way only. Prevents the average high school dropout from bolting say, a seat belt anchor, on backwards. Not only that, for threaded fasteners, the torque guns they use are automatically set to a certain torque remotely. The exact torque is recorded and tagged to a barcode on the part (pertaining to safety items).

Ah, a brief insight into a world where the government makes everything. Let this be a warning to you.

i'm still trying to figure out what a visibility recall is.....
