i drive a 95 civic and i was driving the other day fine and all of a sudden my brake pedal would just sink to the floor when i go to slow down. I recently changed the brake pads but they've been fine for a month since then. I checked the brake fluid and its the same level it's been. I might be selling it this week so i want to get this taken care of so what should i check first. I dont think its my mc and i didnt notice any leaks near any of the front brakes or rear drums. should i just bleed them or is there a certain thing i should check in the mc?

Is there still pressure or "spring" when it hits the floor or does it feel like it has completely lost all pressure?

theres a little less give than normal but still some, it just goes all the way down now and then actually starts to brake. doesnt actually slam to the floor but close.

It could still be the MC; possibly the piston seal has gone out so it's internally leaking(it wouldn't lose fluid but would have a hard time building pressure); something like that happened with my Accord where I'd have to pump it to build pressure even though it didn't lose fluid. Replaced the MC and works fine.

yeah i was hoping it wouldn't come to that because i really dont feel like replacing it but if it has to be done it has to be done, me and my friend are gonna check it out tomorow. thanks a lot.

Before you go replacing parts, do a proper brake bleed.
You say you recently replaced the pads, there is a high chance
air got into the system. Start your bleed from the furthest distance and work your way up.

i.e. right rear, left rear, right front, left front. Making sure the res. is full.

If this doesnt do it, proceed to checking seals and replace as needed.

He replaced the pads a month ago. Bleeding may help, but if it's dropping fast I highly doubt it's air in the system(which usually spongy/doesn't "drop").

I couldnt agree more. Atleast at this rate he can double check proper fluid level
and ascertain he is not pulling in more air at each brake pump, not to mention a loose bleeder valve somewhere.
I would guess a faulty M C as well in the long run.

I have a 95 Dx and mine did the same thing one time, but on a hill at a red light. I thought I was going to roll into the back of a car....so I rip the e-brake. Come to find out one of my MC's shit the bed!

look under the dash and see if there is any greasy residue on the firewall above the brake pedal.. my guess is the MC is toast
