I'm looking for some strong magnetic strips similar to this...

Magnet.jpg

I need the magnets strong enough so when I close my tool box drawer, they don't go flying everywhere.

The one in my pic sucks. I ripped it out of a broken Mac Tools socket tray and it's not nearly strong enough lol.

I'm looking to get 3-4 12"-18" strips. I've searched everywhere and I can only find some cheap ass weak ones that have an adhesive backing.

And yes I have socket trays for my regular sockets. I need these magnet strips for my torx sockets, allen sockets, triple square sockets, swivel sockets, swivel torx, ect...

If you got any links, shoot them my way. Thanks :D

I looked at those but they need to be screwed down. I'm not putting screws through my tool box lol. I guess i'm looking for these strips to be double sided so when I grab a socket, the entire magnet doesn't come with it lol.

Rare earth magnets are strong and hold on to ANYTHING. They will easily do their job, but I don't know if they sell them in strips the size you are looking for. They also aren't cheap for what it is.

Finding the size I want has been the hardest part :-( I've found some that are like 3x1x1x... Not even remotely close to what I need lol.

why not use something like this?

Because that will take up too much space in my tool box. Having my sockets vertically mounted would be a much better space saver. I need to maximize what room I got right now because I won't be able to afford the exact tool box I want for at least another 2 years.

I use regular socket strips?

I'd still have to grab the entire strip and yank the socket off. It doesn't sound like much but that wasted time and energy adds up when you're trying to be as time efficient as possible. Plus, when my hands are all fucking greasy it makes it a pain in the dick to pull sockets off that damn thing lol. I'm sure anyone else here who works at a dealership can agree :)

I found these... Mechanics Time Savers - Magna Rail

Anyone got anything to say about these before I pull the trigger on them? I found them for $17 each and i'm gonna need 3...

You've probably got some old hard drives laying around... Take the neodymium magnets out of those and JB Weld them to the toolbox. The magnets from a regular hard drive can stick a newspaper to your fridge. I had some from on old 3-bay height scsi drive that could stick the Sunday paper to the fridge. I had to get rid of them when I accidentally let them get too close to each other... They had cracked themselves in the collision when they came together. Almost broke my hand when it did and had to pull them apart by actually tying one to the house and one to the car and pulling them apart that way.

Regular hard drive magnets are about 1/4 as strong and would probably do the job just fine.

Hmm... I don't have any but i'm sure the IT guys at my job have some... Thanks for the idea

I got a couple from harbor freight

18" Magnetic Holder
Will that magnetize to my tool box drawer so I don't have to screw it down?

if it wont magnetize to the drawer, dismantle it (or dont, either way), then stick it to the underside of the drawer. mark where it sits attached inside the drawer, then put your sockets there. if its a good strong magnet, it should hold the sockets through the metal like that with no problem. im sure it wouldnt withstand the drawer being slammed shut, but regular use should be ok.
