ok.
So, I ran my free credit report tonight with all 3 agencies.
I got my transunion report, which i guess only reports things that are going against your credit. everything is about right there. nothing worth note.

but, the problem lies with the other two.
when im prompted to answer the security questions they both ask me about a mortgage. but they both ask about different mortgages.
I dont own a house.

One agency questions me about a mortgage from feb 1999, i was 12 at that month/year.

The other asks about a mortgage from 2006.

I cant get around this. calling these places obviously get you jack shit. What the fuck do i do next?

Last time i checked, none of this was on there. (its been a while though)
and i couldnt even buy a car in 2007/08 because i didnt have enough credit history.

I'm just at a loss here. i dont deal with credit too much considering ive never had any. and now i may be a victim of fraud. I would love to find where these mortgages are going, so i can take ownership of a house or two.

any advice? i need help here. im super pissed/agitated right now.

is that site actually trustworthy and not just going to spam the shit out of me with emails then sell my info to the highest bidder to either rack up other mortgages under my name or mail me a shit ton of bullshit offers?

They are just asking you to answer a security question - just say you never had one. They are trying to catch scammers. Chill out.

Yeah, I had a few fake questions when I ran mine a few weeks ago. Just answer them as truthfully as you can. I had to look at my mortgage to answer a question.

i have no idea... never used them... i can almost guarantee that they will spam the hell out of you and sell your info to other places that will spam the hell out of you
just seems to be the kind of thing that companies that advertise on TV do

i just thought it was a semi funny pic to throw in here since you were talking about your shit credit and all

Want to run your credit score? Tell a broker you want to buy a house and have them run it, then request to see it. Then you get to see what the banks see.

i did answer the security questions on with a "no, does not apply" or whatever the option was.

problem is, that got me locked out because the answers were wrong.

one of the agencies, 3 of the questions were about the mortgage, the other two were what street have you lived on (none of them right) and what city have you lived in (none of them right)

i understand that they will have questions that the answer is no i dont have that, but all of the questions being that? i dont think thats something they would do.
plus, even when answered no to all of them, it tells me that i cannot access my report because i failed to answer the questions correctly.

Or go to a honda dealer, apply for a loan and front like you are going to buy. Just dont get suckered into actually buying one. :D At this rate you get your actual credit score as well in minutes. By law they have to show you the report.

By law they have to show you the report.

no they don't. by law they are required to tell you how to access your credit report. i have had several loans and i have to flirt with the girl running the loan just to get my actual score. they aren't supposed to give that out either.

when buying a home they go over your whole credit report w/ you.. they did w/ me and Jen anyways

what service did you use to run your credit report?
thats some pretty sensitive info to be giving to a random website
i would try calling the companies that you were locked out of asap
at the very least have them put a security alert on your SSN
just tell them you were on the playstation network and your info has been compromised
for more info on this refer to the PSN is down thread, the email sony sent out is posted there

Just to be clear, only go through:

Annualcreditreport.com

All other sites are spam bullshit.

This.

I do it every year now. It's pretty awesome outside of those mortgage questions. Mainly due to the fact my wife had a mortgage in 2001 and equifax asked me about a 2001 mortgage last year when I was pulling it. got locked out due to answering for my wife's mortgage.

i believe that differs by state, here, they show you at dealerships.
its some kind of open policy that dealers are required to have now, they show the whole credit report with score.

the problem with that is, most dealers only go through 1 of the 3 branches, doesnt show everything.

im far too much of a skeptic to go through anything else. i went to the equifax site and it linked me straight to that.

im stressed about it a little, but im not going to worry too much til i get back from vacation next week. i should have just waited til then to even check this shit.

im wondering though, if i go to my bank would they be able to check and see if it shows me as having a mortgage somewhere?

is it even safe to request a credit report through the mail.

seems kinda sketchy to me to put all that information into a single envelope and then put it in the care of the post office or other delivery service.

they know where its going, and most would know what an envelope to those companies would contain. just seems like an invite to be fucked.

Nothing is "safe" in the mail anymore, hasn't been for years. How unsafe depends on the integrity of the postal employees between you and your parcel's destination.

The punishment for stealing/tampering with mail is pretty steep though.

Depending on the system they use, they might only get an A B C or D answer for credit at a dealership.

When buying a home, you'll see the credit number for all 3, what credit cards or accounts are open in your name, the balance to debt ratio and anything else that might be flagged.

When I pulled my credit I saw 3 credit cards that were not mine, they were my parents but were still showing up under my name since I had my name on their card way back in the day.
