What a piece of shit. That fuck head, and others just like him and his entitlement mentality are a contagious disease that needs to be eradicated.

I thought that assistance you received in the past were repayed or partially repayed if you won the lottery. What a dick,

And to that he says:

"If you're going to try to make me feel bad, you're not going to do it”

i'm not taking the guys side on this one, but the one article i saw on this said he paid 1.15mil in taxes and only walked away with 850k

if i had 850k i would not be collecting public assistance, but some people dont have that sort of decency

i think there is a bigger issue here. should someone who relies on the government for food (and probably also collects welfare) be buying lotto tickets? shouldn't he spend that money on more important things?

In general yes, but apparently that dollar spent was "important", but the end game being getting the leech off welfare didn't happen, so it's a fail/fail.

the irony behind this whole thing, lotto funds go into service to pay for government funding such as welfare, disability, and education. When poor people get money, they just give it right back to the state. it's just a big cycle of broke dick people swapping dollars with the government. fucking retards.

he's 59.

Most people retire with around a million or less in savings.

Sounds like a perfect retirement plan to me................

From the article
"I am not going to sit and debate the ethics of this," Wilson said. "But from his standpoint, he did what he was supposed to do -- he informed the state, and the state said he could keep using the card. The problem is with the state."
I'm not on this guys side, more of playing devil's advocate. It's a matter of ethics, not fraud. He did nothing illegal.

And we all know everybody on food stamps/social security is worth millions...

In all seriousness though, reforms in all entitlement programs aimed at doing nothing more than eliminating system abuse would save billions.

The local radio show the other day was pimping a new smartphone banking app and someone called in to ask if it could manage their food stamp account. Seriously, you can't afford to eat and you have an iPhone?

We have hyped consumption in this country to the point where the average citizen is willing to shamelessly leverage programs which are supposed to keep people fed and off the streets for no better reason than being able to buy a "cool" phone. Entitlement programs were never intended to enable you to afford higher consumer social status...

as long as we (taxpayers) fund devices such as food stamps that can be traded for drugs and/or cash, we're fucked. the system is broke and there is no way out.

drug dealers with 10 kids can collect welfare and food stamps. millionaire lotto winners can collect food stamps. and my grandmother who has no income only gets $700/month in social security. I have more national pride than 99% of people here, but sometimes i really fucking hate this place.

There is a way out but a majority of society is either to weak to say "no" and stand up for fixing it because they don't want to be labled as cruel, racist, blah blah blah or has their hand in the cookie jar.

My blood pressure spikes every time I hear a Safelink ad or watch some person using their stamp card to by steak at the grocery store.

Not much - this country has lost the idea of need vs want. BTW you cannot buy beer or cigs with an EBT card.

Since the current definition of food is a specific part of the Act, </SPAN>any change to this definition would require action by a member of Congress. Several times in the history of SNAP, Congress had considered placing limits on the types of food that could be purchased with program benefits. However, they concluded that designating foods as luxury or non-nutritious would be administratively costly and burdensome. Further detailed information about the challenges of restricting the use of SNAP benefits can be found here:"
