Got 2nd in TTB last weekend before spinning the rod bearing on #4 from oil starvation on turn 8. The beginning caught a glimpse of a F430 Scuderia flying by me on my warm up. 2nd part is me making my way from the back of the pack (came to grid late).

Love the new power of the motor and grip of the tires/suspension. Wish it would have lasted longer. I need to rebuild this thing before the next race on July 2nd.

Enjoy!

Yes, totally 2nd guessed that pass as it was tight there. I realized he was aware I was there so went for it.

Oil starvation was caused by the following.

  • Excessive crank case pressure pushed oil into catch can
  • Catch can had no drain back so oil just accumulated into the catch
  • Hard left hander, engine fell out of VTEC and I noticed oil pressure was down around 25psi so I let off
  • Oil pressure came back to around 55psi so I limped into the paddock
  • As soon as I came close to my spot, I heard a rod knock, killed the engine and pushed it into my parking spot.
  • check the oil and nothing was on the dipstick.
  • found about 2qts of oil in my catch can.
#4 rod bearing fried. Needs a new crank as well.

:(

It will be rebuilt and ready for the next time trial event on July 2nd.

yea i saw that he kinda let off, or moved over somewhat.
road racing looks like so much fun, i need to get out on a track :(

sounds like the catch can needs a little work. did you vent the block and the valve cover?

sucks you spun a bearing, and you just got done rebuilding the engine didnt ya?

Catch can does need work. I plan on doing the following.
Larger catch can
Drain back to oil pan
add 2 vents to front of VC
block off and remove the black box on the block.

Hopefully that takes care of it. I'll be watching it closely at the next event.

This was only the 3rd event on the engine since the rebuild; had about 200 or so miles on it. :(

some people vent the block as well, you might look in to that. the black box on the back is usually where they do it from. i think most run two separate catch cans.
