This isn't really new. Mac fans just choose to ignore it. Every Mac-fan I've talked to just say "It's so much better" or "best for the type of work I do" but can never explain how or why. Only thing I ever look at at the Apple store are their iPods; I've played with the Macs and do not like the interface at all.
say what you want about macs, sure, most mac owners are hipster retards, but they make the best looking product out of anyone. build quality is top notch too. most people that dont care about that stuff will scoff at it, but to the customer who cares about that, more power to them if they want a mac.
fact: there ARE less viruses for macs than there are for PCs. the average customer doesnt care that its because the authors just dont bother with the platform, they just care that the number is lower. in their minds it presents a lower risk, not no risk (although there are idiots who think its no risk).
for the record, the only apple product i own is an iphone. but i wouldnt mind having a macbook pro for a general use/work laptop. id dual boot win7 on it though. its hard to get a powerful, lightweight, and aesthetically pleasing notebook from PC mfgs. currently all my computers are PCs, mainly because the things i do with them, you cant really do on macs (or do well); gaming, HTPC, etc.

I do many things i shouldn't on my windows 7 laptop and haven't run a antivirus program since i got it over a year ago... I haven't had one issue. I install a program and scan it once every two months and have never had one find anything!

Sadly I think iTerm is about as useful as Putty so that's not really a deal breaker for me in that regards. Wow plays just fine on both (except I get built in video recording, which is $20 on a windows machine). VPN is easier to setup on my mac than it is in Windows or Linux, so that's one plus, but I rarely use it.
I can't really think of anything that puts the mac over the edge in terms of 'I'd buy this over a PC' except that it has instant suspend and resume. That is really neat and gets a lot of use from me.

I have OS X 10.6.5 running in a virtual machine, dual booting Ubuntu and Win7 ...I almost never use anything by Win 7. Other than the just seeing if I could get them to work, there's really nothing they can do better than my PC, and you have to be pretty much a moron to catch a virus, so it's a non-issue for me.
not true, the $1200 macbook pro with 2.3GHz i5 will run it just fine.
Nope. VPN = Virtual Private Network. Lets me get on my work's network from home on days that I'm on call.
indeedly so, but not really well. we have a one of those new mbpros and parallels with 7x64 (4gb ram, 2.7ghz i5) and outlook takes about 30 seconds to open long after parallels has been loaded. those times are just NOT kosher for a production environment.
dual booting a mac box is just not great. especially when my users have CS5 files open, and then need to get into 3dsmax on their window side... who has that kind of time to switch back and forth using shit bootcamp?
at the moment we have ex03 enterprise, and calendaring/resources dont work really well in entourage, and entourage databases crash (large databases)... so most of our macs use office 2007 or 2010 to circumvent that. our mac users need the rest of the office suite anyways.
we were hoping when moving to ex10 that the issue would be solved, but again, outlook for mac still uses one nasty entourage style database and it still crashes.
