Ok guy's here's the deal, I was thinking about putting a turbo or a supercharger in my 95 civic coupe but i came across this sweet deal on a b18a1 full swap. My question is this, i know that a stock b18a1 has ruffly 140hp what will it take to get that puppy up to 200hp all motor ( I'll be putting a turbo on it next year) Im not that familiar with import engine performance upgrades other than slapping a turbo on it, I know how to work on them but i dont know what it would take to reach my goal enternally. If anyone has any ideas or reccomendations I would greatly appreciate your inputs. I have about 3,000 that i can spend maybe more without the wifey finding out. thanks in advance

I don't mean to be a total dick here....wait...yes i do...why the fuck would you dump $3000 into a 16 year old civic to make 200hp. Why don't you take the 3k, sell the civic for 1500, put down 4500 on a 2006ish SI and pay off the rest over 2-3 years...you'll have a nicer newer car with stock 200ish hp

if you plan on going turbo with it next year then there is no point in building the B18 for NA power, it will all just be wasted money when you end up ripping it out to build your turbo setup

get the engine in there and spend some money upgrading your brakes and suspension

then just set the rest aside for use on your turbo build

Well corvetteguy the fact of the matter is that this car belonged to my little brother who died last year overseas and his dream was to build a 200+hp all motor civic prior to putting a turbo on it. He had already done the suspension E SOLSI he did a 5 lug conversion and added brembo calipers, drilled and slotted rotors, steel braided brake lines, skunk2 control arms and coil overs front and back. His other goal was to open a tuner shop so this was going to be his showcar/daily driver in other words his billboard. This is the only thing material wise that i have from him, im not gonna do the shop thing but i will finish this car with the help of you guys, correct me if im wrong e solsi but dont you have to beef up your enternals on the motor to withstand more hp from adding a turbo?

yes you should build up the internals if you are planning to turbo it... the problem is that the components you would use for a high power NA build are completely different from the ones you would use for a FI build

that is why i said dont build it for NA if you plan to turbo it
gather up the correct parts and build it once

correct me if im wrong e solsi but dont you have to beef up your enternals on the motor to withstand more hp from adding a turbo?

Correct, but NA power = higher compression, boost generally you want lower compression, as E said you'd be building in two opposite directions.

Ok im with you so lets build it right the first time with a turbo but lets do 250+hp, where do i start first, im sure ordering parts but what should i order or go pick up first. There are some shops around Dallas that i could pick up some parts or do you guys have some suggestions on where to shop online.

found an post from pissedoffsol, "Building an Ls all motor monster" on pretty much on what im trying to build, I'll start there but I'll do a few things different like add the skunk2 intake and the cam gears and also add underdrive pulleys. I'll post pics as i go along soon.

why are you building for all motor? its the expensive way to go slow
throw a set of pistons and rods in your LS, boost it, and enjoy 250+whp all day.

If u want a turbo ls anyway u should tear it down have it cleaned at a machine shop buy some je pistons and ealge rods since ur not going for alot of power valve train for the head maybe stage 2 and some small head work like a port and polish so it will flow right the work and parts alone will cost u 700 for the pistons and rods 2 or 300 for a small port and polish and 400 to 500 for the cleaning and install, cams will cost u probably a g if u do the whole head valve train ie cam springs retainers and bronze valve guides still only 2500 and u have 500 like for injectors and a tune sine u don't need crazy injectors , for computer I recommend ec tune it's cheap and they work amazing. If ur not going for alot u will have the potential if u want to later on better to build it right then wrong. Good luck with the build

Hey thanks for the input TurboB22CRX, yeah im planning on tearing it down and i actually thought about what E Solsi said " that is why i said dont build it for NA if you plan to turbo it gather up the correct parts and build it once " the hell with it, im going turbo. There wasn't but a 100 dollar difference between the internals for all motor or turbo granted i have to buy a turbo kit, ruffly around 1500 i was thinking about a turbonetics kit from treadstone performance. I got a list on what im gonna order on friday let me know what you guys think, any adds or deletes please feel free to leave a comment, oh and do you guys have any suggestion on bore size and compression i should order the pistons? Well here's my quote, let me know what you guys think..

I would get an OE head gasket instead of the Cometic.

Also consider a gsr oil pump and get a new rear main seal while you're in there.

thanks b16, I will do the oil pump and it has to be a gsr oil pump or can i use different one, like aftermarket and Ill remove cometic head gasket. Like i said im new to engine performance upgrades and i need all the help i can get. This is why Ill take your inputs and make changes because im sure that you've all done this many times before. Thanks again for all your inputs and comments. Anyone have a suggestion on bore size and compression for my pistons?

What kind of fuel do you plan on running?

93 octane, why do i have to run higher. I do have access to racing fuel if i need to make a mix but i plan on driving this car around alot, not gonna be my daily driver but i will be driving to alot of car shows and down the 1/4 mile track now and then. Oh im also going to order a fuel rail and injectors from injector dynamics 725cc is that ok, do I need smaller or bigger. I just got my skunk 2 manifold today, what size throttle body do you suggest., im going to have the head, and manifold ported and polished to match also, should i port the exhaust side bigger?

Sorry not sure if port was the correct thing to say, is it port or make the valves on the exhaust side bigger
