Hello.

I have a del sol currently... but I am fixing it up to sell it, to start fresh on a cleaner one, with the best engine for a supercharger.

What would be the best engine to look for to supercharge??

b16a3 from a 94-95 VTEC del sol??

Or grab any del sol, and purchase an h22 swap... but would that leave enough room in the engine bay for a super charger??

I remember when I was looking a couple years back for turbo... some even suggest a d series motor.

What would be the BEST engine to work off of if im looking to gain as much HP as possible. I am thinking a supercharge so i have all the power at once... it will be STICK, not auto :D

Thanks, Ed.

what are you power goals?

i have a good bit of knowledge and experience with Jackson racing superchargers... the most you will ever see with a B series motor is 250-290whp. it will have a lot of torque and should be faster than a turbo car with the same hp numbers. very very fun street car that is still easy to drive but a rocket when step on it. you can make north of 250whp with a stock gsr, type r, or any combination of built lsvtec or b20vtec motors. good enough for 12 sec ETs in the 1/4.

if you want more power than that you will have to go another route.

If i was in your shoes i would get a gsr motor and put a jrsc on it. its an easy swap into the sol, and the superchargers are cheap... about $1k for a complete kit.

Max 250whp?? h22 is 220hp stock?? (Been awhile since i checked it out but...)

So with a Turbo set up, what could i possible gain as a max??

I'd mainly be looking to purchase the del sol with the engine in it, so I'd prefer something that comes stock in a del sol,

d15s, d16s, and b16a3 ... I was hoping if i start off with a 160hp b16, that over 300hp, atleast, would be possible with a SC, but I wouldn't mind running a turbo also(currently have an STI... I do like the turbo, but not the lag, and thought an SC having power all through the RPM would be funner... maybe I could test drive one first...)

I guess what I am after is as much power as possible, but i would attempt for at least 300whp, if possible.

This will be a project car in the near future, so although I don't want it to be extremely expensive, 1k didn't sound too bad for a SC set up, but only 250 :p , was hoping for more :D

(edit) - I would be willing to swap, if necesary, to push atleast 300... and definitely if that's the only way to get above 300, later on...

Thanks for your help

a stock h22 is only going to put down like 165whp.... 300whp in a little fwd honda is about the maximum amount of useable power on the street, im sure others will back me up on this. there is no doubt that the easiest and cheapest way to reach 300 hp at the wheels is a turbo. the little d series motors are going to take some work to get to that power range reliably. i would only look at something with a b series motor if it was me.

and seriously i wouldnt rule out a supercharger setup... a 12 second honda thats easy to drive and has down low power is a lot of fun on the street. the only reason i got rid of my jrsc setup was because i wanted to focus more on racing at the track. my car is just a toy not a daily driver.

So what is the best engine to work off of for a supercharger, that will fit into a Del Sol?

Also, can you please put a link up to a website selling the supercharger for the engine??

I can find engine swaps complete online, but nowhere can i find a website that is selling the damn superchargers, only forums, and reviews...

used jackson racing supercharger kits are fairly common on forums, craigslist, etc... thats what you should be looking for. best motors to supercharge are b18c or any built ls/vtec or b20/vtec... they will get you near 300 at the wheels and a lot of torque. a b18a, b18b, or any d series is going to be weak. b16a is ok but not much torque. also h22s are not as simple of a swap as the B series and the superchargers for them are very hard to find. i dont know about you, but when i look at classifieds in my area, all the hondas for sale pretty much have b series motors in them already. thats probably the cheapest way to get started.

Well, the only b series del sol, are 94-95 si VTECs, that came with the b16a3... :D

Hard to find at a reasonable price :p

what i meant, was that most of the 90s model hondas have already been modified by someone. nearly every one i see in my local classifieds has a b series motor swap of one kind or another.

ive seen some pretty nice cars with gsr and type r swaps in them in the $5k range. del sols are not that common so it may be hard to find one of them with a swap, but if you do, it will save you some money. buying and paying to install a gsr motor (plus other stuff you will need like motor mounts, upgraded clutch/flywheel, possibly axles, etc..) is going to cost you near $5k all by itself. thats why i was suggesting you look for cars that have already been swapped.

check out Autotrader.com or yahooautos.com. i found a stock EK for less then 3400. i know where im looking when i get back to the US if my bringing my civic back falls through.

is it safe to buy a used S/C? also i have checked on Jacksonracing.com is there something im missing because all i find is S/C for K series?

used kits are like $1000.... lot of people even sell injectors with them. youre going to need something to tune it with and some bigger injectors, but basically the kit is the manifold that attaches to your motor, the blower, and the pulley setup.

you want a kit for a gsr or the b16a/type R, depending on what head you have. the are all the same parts, only difference is the bolt pattern on the manifold. the supercharger for the ls motors and D series is different, uses a smaller blower and of course different manifolds.
