well this is my first FI build and I am going with a supercharger.
I got a good deal on it from a good friend. I've looked and looked and like most things honda there is a huge argument on what is best. I haven't really found anything in common between the threads and information i have read. although i did find a guy in ohio ( if memory serves me) who builds them all the time but hes not telling any secerts any time soon. so that brings me back to hondaswap where i really have never been steered wrong so thanks for that.
So lets start. basically you have to have power to make power with a supercharger correct? For me a good chunk of info. but also raises my biggest mind bottling question. so if you have to have power to make power do you build the motor as a NA style set up? or use a FI style set up?

what motor are you putting it on??

the jrsc was designed to work with stock compression levels. i had one on my built b20vtec that is about 9.6:1 CR. it worked well. i would imagine anywhere up to about 11:1 would work too, considering people run them on type R motors. If i was you i would aim for somewhere between 10-11:1 for compression. you dont really want massive cams with FI... so stick with something mild like a gsr, type r, or stage 1 cam.

sometimes i miss my jrsc... it was a lot of fun. real easy to drive, great for a street car.

So I should build it with a little higher compression as for other inter. I should just beef them up a little to insure better reliabilty? Ill have to look into that mod for the sc.

you honestly dont have to do anything internally, but i would at least do ARP head studs. if you want extra insurance and a possible bump in power, then pistons and rods would be cool.

what motor???

sorry mdpseg i see you asked me that question twice now. It's going on a y8 so being a d I guess thats why i assumed i should put some better inter. in.

you dont see many SOHC SC'd these days, and the ones you do dont make substantial power, usually people dont waste time with internals for some reason. If you can spare pulling the motor apart, id advise rods and piston to ensure reliablity as mdpseg said.

Props for a D build, i went the FI way with my D build. Im in for a build thread if you start one :D

yea thats kinda why I want to build a D. Problem is just that no one has them haha. I'm not looking for a rocket ship or anything. The ones I have seen are putting down about 300 on a SC d but they didn't post parts or any info on there build so I'm left in the dark on even a decent start. Ya I will start a build thread when i get it all going my friend is in sturgis this week so a motor coming next week

From my experience with FI, definitely get rods and pistons, the stock compression is 9:1 on a y8 IIRC, so stick to that, get a nice header, injectors, exhaust, yada yada, essentially an NA build. As for a head, maybe stage 1 cam, arp studs. Should get you 200-300 id think with a good tune.

d series with a supercharger is not going to be a powerhouse, maybe low 200s for horsepower. but it will be fun, lots of torque, lots of low rpm power. it will feel very un-honda like, no more peaky power band.

if you end up replacing the pistons and rods, i would consider bumping compression up a little. it will make more power.

im not looking for 400-500 horse would never need that on the street besides i would most likely get into trouble. thanks turborex that was my main question on what path to take it seems with a SC its very conflicting ideas and yes I'm going to replace the pistons and rods. Also going to send the block out to be trued up a little never know where it has been before you know I figure that is a good place to start. I will post in the build thread today. It is the day I start the civic tear down and prep for paint. Should be a fun day of beer and tools in a garage. yup must say a perfect saturday.
