YEEEEAAHHHHH
Don't know if anyone who regularly ships USPS has any input on this, or can guide me in my next step - but heres the situation.

Buy X item from forum member on the 22nd of August. Package is shipped out via USPS ground with delivery confirmation and partial tracking on the 23rd from SoCal. Expected delivery date is August 31st. Mind you this is the week before Irene hit.

The 31st comes and goes and still no package or update on the USPS tracking website. All the info I get is that the package has been processed for shipping. Given I have the confirmation number and the package is addressed to me - can the postal service actually track this thing down? I'm getting tired of waiting almost two full weeks for a small package to go cross country and I'm worried the item may be lost, damaged or mis-labeled.

Input? Does USPS always ship this fucking slow?

I actually ship and receive packages from them regularly and never had a probelm with dates or lost items. Hopefully it was insured or somethhing, seems lost.

The only problem Ive had with them is their rarely updated tracking info. It's usually at my door before a single update is made. Then it all magically shows up on their site at once. I did have a 1lb piece take like 3 days to travel 90 miles once though. So I guess some times they are slower than others.

yup chris, most of my ebay packages still havent arrived.... shipped a day before irene hit us.

i've experienced the same thing you have.. what happened with mine was i paid for some OEM side skirts, buyer placed an online shipping order through USPS, they gave him a conf # but he never arranged for them to pick it up.. ended up getting ripped off.. filed paypal claim and they decided in my favor, but i only got half back because its all he had in his paypal or something.. :lame: give it another week because of Irene.. if nothing has arrived i'd file a paypal claim

usps tracking sucks. it's accurate for "shipped" and "signed/recevied" and thats about it. Anything in the middle may or may not exist.

I'd give it a few more days.

If it comes down to it and you have to file a claim, just go through PayPal. USPS has some of the worse customer service I have ever needed to deal with...

What does the tracking update say exactly? Has USPS actually received the package? Or do they just have shipping info (indicating that the seller created a label but hasn't actually dropped it off yet)

The latter is what I was given up until the package was in my hands. So even that wouldnt mean anything.

Yup. USPS tracking is only on receipt. If you want any chance of point to point tracking like UPS and FedEx give you, you have to send registered/secure- and even then I don't know that they'll tell you where a box is.

Your item was accepted at 9:43 am on August 23, 2011 in MONTEREY PARK, CA 91754. Information, if available, is updated periodically throughout the day. Please check again later.

I assume the package was dropped off the mail office by the seller, just don't know when/how its gonna get here or why its taking so long. The seller wouldn't be the one to scam me either - the guy has a 100% rating on Ebay with 47 feedbacks. Gonna wait a few more days, then bring it up with him and if need be file a claim with PP.

eBay is pretty adamant that you work things out with the seller before escalating. I just had money refunded from eBay on an item I bought and the seller never shipped. He had 100% feedback too (not anymore).

It sounds like he did drop it off and it's in the possession of USPS now. Have you tried to contact USPS? I would try them first.

some places STILL don't have power. If it was stuck at a sorting room with no power all week, it hasn't moved. I would suggest being patient a few more days.

USPS may default by the end of the year.

thats great... then we will all be forced to use UPS and FedEx who have been jacking their prices up to the roof lately.

I shipped a 17" wheel and tire, beginning of August to TN, it cost me $36.

the SAME wheel and tire, in the same size box/weight/packing etc, same destination, cost me $44 on Saturday.

what the shit?

Expect about a 7% annual increase from FedEx and UPS. The USPS will have larger increases - they already requested a larger increase and were denied - but their base prices are lower.

A common misconception is that FedEx and UPS "jack" their prices throughout the year. This isn't true. The industry standard is to raise the prices once per year in January. This past year they implemented approximately a 7% rate increase, offset by 2% reduction in where the fuel surcharge increases and a big dimensional weight change - that effects items that don't weigh as much as the space their box "should" take up. I.e., its to deter etailers from putting a feather in a gigantic box.

The only prices that change during the year are the fuel surcharge and thats based off the price of crude futures.

The reason why USPS isn't profitable is because it's run by the government.

And you want these people to run your health care?
