One of my good friends just finished swapping a LY6 into his s series truck. It's basically an iron block 6.0 from a gm truck, with LS3 vette heads, a big cam, bolt-ons, and a t56. Check out the vid I made for him:

How hard was it getting the T56 in there? After I ditch the Si I was considering a similar build.

Custom mount kit, had to notch out the sub frame, and fabricated a trans mount. Cut a hole in the floor for the shifter. Custom shorty headers. Everything fits decently. Putting ls motors into s series trucks is getting more and more common and is pretty well documented.

Nice truck, kind of similar on what I want to put into my truck.
Did he have to do a custom driveshaft?

I've got custom longtubes not shorties. Driveshaft had to be shortened. I also went from an auto to manual so some of my stuff is different then people that already had stick shift trucks.

probably going to need some better brakes and tires to handle the power.

sweet build...except for the gauge cluster. lol

yea.. gauge cluster is wack.. lol.. sounds beastly though, i like

Yea the gauge cluster will be changed out for a stock one out of a 2.2L manual trans truck. That way it wont have the gear shift indicator lights on it and will have a tach that goes to 7k instead of 6k. Flames were cool 9 yrs ago when I bought it but I like stockish now. I run drag slicks at the track and it has aftermarket disc brakes all around. Eventually Ill get a set of 18's so I can run c6 vette brakes up front. Today I installed quieter Spintech Sportsman mufflers, Working on a before and after vid of cold start up, some revs, warm idle, cruising and wot both with the windows open and closed. And Ill do it again after a few days of driving to see if the sound does change or not after a "Break in", its controversal that chambered mufflers break in or not since theres nothing there to break in but Ive always noticed a difference in sound between brand new and after maybe 50 or more miles. And a heads up, Video is pretty shaky since Im trying to hold a camcorder focused on the gauge cluster while steering and shifting. Takes skills.

Well time for bed.

Colin we should have uncapped the cutouts for part of the vid! I had the tool with me.

..
The Vortec 6000 LY6 is a Generation IV small block V8 truck engine. It shares the same bore and stroke as its LQ4 predecessor, and also features variable valve timing. 4.0 inch bore 3.622 inch stroke
LY6 applications:
2007–present Chevrolet Silverado HD
2007–present GMC Sierra HD
2007–present Chevrolet Suburban 3/4 ton
2007–present GMC Yukon XL 3/4 ton

That sounds awesome. Good call on the T56.

Thanks, Yep as posted above the ly6 is basically just a lq4 with l92 heads and vvt, I added the lightweight ls3 valves and went with an aftermarket vvt cam.

I checked out the build thread (about half way through-ish.) A lot more going on than just slapping some heads on a junkyard block. Haha Very nicely done. Where did you source the engine? I've been thinking of ditching the built 355 in favor of a 5.3 or 6.0. And with the price you paid its really got the gears turning again.

We would have been thrown out of camp for sure. I'll be in Akron again this weekend. I'll bring the little Nikon and we can make a new video.

Thanks, I found the engine through car-partsdotcom, Not trying to sell my build short so yea my build is pretty bad a**, LOL atleast its the first vvt s-series that I know of.

Well that why we would have uncapped it on that road. Come on over this weekend, Your invited to my brothers bd party at my house sat evening, Told your brother about it on Sun and he was suppose to tell you. We probably cant uncap the exhaust around here though. I did put the new mufflers on, they're about 2x bigger but not much quieter haha.
