Hello all...I am building a H23 I installed the head gasket and torqued it down. Later to find that the cylinder head has a crack in it. My question is can I reuse the head gasket. The engine was never started. The head gasket is a Honda gasket. Any help would be apricated. Thanks in advance...

I changed a head gasket in a 97 honda civic. When i worked on it I had my mechanic friend check my work from time to time, and when i pulled the old gasket he saw no severe wear and stated I could have almost reused it. When you pull the gasket check it thouroughly for any damage from installation or removale, and of course any oil or coolant that may have got on it. Considering the engine never ran im sure you could re-use it.

never reuse head gaskets its just bad juju if you want any thing to last you must use good parts and pride in workwanship

I would say this more to be true with head bolts, which Ive heard of people re using all time with no real issue. I personally would not suggest re using head bolts unless they are engineered to. (ARP)

Seeing that you never fired it up, and it was a brand new OEM part, I would say OK on re using it. ;)
