Did they make 1000ft by 9/11? I can't find it anywhere if they made it. Which makes me think they didn't.

When i moved here in 06 all the signs said "Freedom Tower Coming 2009"... by 2007 that had changed to "Coming 2011"... and by 2008 it changed to "2013.

I have no idea when it will be done.

not sure if it's true or not but I heard on the news they are adding about 1 floor per week now.

Even with all the new technology and advances in construction, they still can't build as fast as they did back in the 30s.

It's just like building cars. There are a lot more regulations and a lot more to put in the building than just walls and electricity. Regs are especially high when it comes to safety. They have to build a whole structure around the structure to build the structure, where's Xzibit?

The building tapers as it goes up though, aka its getting smaller as they go up and that means less work.

I like this shot.
Wish I could get out there to see it being built. Been wanting to go to NYC for some time.

I don't think they did, just read they made 80 floors by 9/11/11. 80*12 is 960 feet (assuming floor to ceiling is 12 feet)

blame the unions
This is one job that the unions didn't screw up. The only workers allowed on it have to have immaculate track records and an attention to detail. And they have removed people from the job for attempting to cut corners or drag their feet to make the job last longer. They want this tower done right.

You can't hate on unions. We'd all be making WalMart wages if they didn't exist. It just sucks when they get out of hand and kill the price/cost ratio.

And yes, I said workers. My uncle is on it.

ill never hate on the unions bc i work in one and make double what non-union people make doing the same job

and its reasons like this as to why companies go bankrupt.

wait 20 years, when your union company cant pay your benefits/pensions.

unions have been around for alot longer than 20 years and there are alot of companies and employees thriving thanks to it. not all unions are good but for the most part everyone that works in a labor based trade want to be in a union. it forces employers to pay fair wages and treat employees right. that being said i dont work for a private company, i work for a city government in a wealthy city. ill be alright
