Awesome video! Reminds me of when I was younger and carved out a ton of my own trails in the woods behind my neighborhood. I'd spend all day out there perfecting jumps and making up my own circuit. Had some great natural hills and winding trails carved out by occasional creek over flow. Of course i had no where near the skill these guys do. Makes me want to get back into it if not for just the extra exercise and a fun outdoor hobby. Know some good n cheap entry level bikes?
 
Yea I used to be in great shape between this blading and sports, now, not so much. Haha Could definetly use the cardio. I checked out Craigslist locally and pickings are slim. Browsed Walmarts offerings and found this.

I figure at that price its a decent start and I could get better pedals, grips, and seat since I see some complaints about them.

lol. Yea, they didn't have many offerings. I'll have to check out that site. In looking for something like 300 at the max. Don't need to go crazy, just want to get started. I can upgrade later if I choose to.
 
I got a ironhorse that i havent touched in years, it was a pretty bullet proof bike as i remember
 
lol I'm gonna wait a little bit before I settle on anything. I've found a few other possibilities last night on some other sites. I'm down in Florida right now anyway. I appreciate the help and apologize for the somewhat threadjack. Guess it'll get more views though. :shrug2:

Edit: checked out those postings. Am I going to miss not having some damping on the rear? Those look like they have some great forks compared to what I've been seeing but I was kind of hoping to avoid a hardtail.

Honestly, anything that's new that is under $500 that has front and rear suspension is going to suck balls. I don't know much about MTB, but I do know that even for a decent new road bike you have to spend at least $600 for a super basic bike. I'm assuming it's about the same for a decent new hardtail MTB. Probably $1500 for a decent full suspension, but that's just me guessing. Don't cheap out, save up a bit and get one that's decent.
 
That all depends on how you ride. I rode a hardtail for years. Height/weight? I'm 5'9" and 210. I would prefer a short 15" hardtail with nice discs and a 160mm+ fork for urban assault and light trail riding to a cheap full suspension. I've managed to put together a pretty nice bike for under $1000. Its a Trek Fuel 90 SLR frame, shortened and gusseted. The new spec sheet reads:

05 Boxxer front fork
Fox Float R rear shock
XTR shifter and rear derailleur only
New Avid BB7 discs with Avid levers
Truvativ Holzefeller crank and BB
Azonic Barretta stem and Origin8 risers
New FSA Gravity wheelset w/ shimano 9 spd
Primo platforms
etc etc.

Ebay and patience!

And Chaz is absolutely right. I would go so far as to say any brand new full suspension bike under $1000 is not going to be that great. There will be weight and performance concessions made to get it that cheap. That's why its better to buy used.

Check out pinkbike.com for a nice cracked frame and have your local fab shop fix it. I'm always looking out for a demolished Kona or Intense or some other brand I can't afford. I have a TIG welder. I'll fix it and ride the shit out of it.
