I bought this hatch a few months ago because no matter how hard I try, I cant quit the Hondas. I gave up the forums, Honda Tuning subscription, and left our local "scene" but the bug still got me. This hatch needs some love and after I finish my "swap" it will get some. About the car, its a 89 Civic DX Hatch, 262,XXX miles, paid $500 for it with a dead cylinder. Bought it from a kid down the road from my house, push started it and drove it home, white smoke gushing out the whole way. After that it has just sat, not running, waiting for me to bring it back to life...first build jitters are kicking my ass so its taking a bit.

I picked up a d16y7 and am doing a bottom end re-gasket, tbelt, water pump, and also got a new clutch & flywheel for the trans. I will be reverting the y7 to run DPFI for awhile in order to save some money and get a little better MPG while im in school. Im slowly gathering parts to freshen up some of the worn out interior and damaged exterior pieces. I have a never ending list of stuff I want to do to this car but am in no hurry and want to enjoy it for what it is.

I chose to come back and use this forum for my main build thread on this car because this was my first Honda forum ever and I like it better than my local motorsports/car enthusiest forum full of douche nuggets and elitist pricks. Enjoy and I hope to post weekly updates.

When I got it.

Thanks man, good to be back.

Had some free time today so I put on the passenger mirror delete, the new to me hatch struts, the in dash clock, and tinted my beat to shit bumper lights. Also had some time to de-badge the rear hatch and paint the H flat black. Just need to sneak the wife's blow dryer out to remove the old dealer sticker. Sorry for all the craptastic cell pics.

I still need to figure out a rear wiper delete plug. My tail lights seem to be 2 shades of red...wtf? Tint will cover it maybe.

One of the 2 clocks I picked at a pick-a-part.

These used to be clear, they came with the car and had a rough life...100% improvement, the tint hides a lot of damage. Tail lights next.

They cheapy cheap quicktastic vc paint job. I hit the letters with some 150 grit on an orbital sander then taped and cut them in. Nothing new, we have all seen it done before, I have another one I am going to attempt to shave and polish.

Before tape removal.

The finished product. Looks much better in person...just gonna have to trust me I guess.

Nothing fancy but it keeps me motivated doing little shit like this.

So you sanded the letters and then taped them off to paint? Hmmm, I would have probably just painted and then sanded the paint off the letters, lol. Much less work that way. Looks good though!

I figured with my not so gental touch I would have slipped off the letters and messed up the paint had I done it the easy way. So I went ahead and took the long route. :cool3:

So today I took my wheels off and took them down to the shop to rebalance them. I didnt like the hammer on weights on the front so I set them up with sticky weights and hammer ons for the back, just makes them look a little cleaner. While they were off I happened to notice that the car has Eibach lowering springs on it...this is news to me.

Sold this turd for what I paid for, shell went away and the HX rims stayed with me. I came out ahead, just need to move the d16y7 now and save up some cash over the winter while I hunt for my PERFECT Honda.

This is what I got now, a 97 ex, stock, needs some work but it was worth it. I will do a build thread this spring, until then just some brakes, tbelt, water pump, and general upkeep.
