Not seeing a new members area, I'll post my hello here. No big fancy introduction. Browsing around on the internet for options, and stumbled across this site, and here I am.
Anyhow, I've a 97 Civic, I believe it's an EX (I honestly never kept track of the extra letters, plus it has no rear badge anymore..but it's a coupe). non-VTEC 1.6L. Five-speed, lowered (correctly) and a couple aftermarket items. Not sure if it's a b16 or what, but it's days are numbered with an ill-maintained 225K on the clock, and I'm considering a swap.
My question is what engine can I swap in with relatively few extra parts? I'm trying to avoid replacing everything under the hood as I'm on a limited budget, and would like to utilize the factory motor mounts, transaxle, ECU and wiring if it's at all possible. I just want something with a little extra oomph and some life left to it; the weary stock motor is becoming increasingly painful to live with, and has begun throwing codes and parts left and right. (I have a 2002 LS1 engine in my garage, but it won't fit without work... I've thought of that route too. ) Being less-familiar with Honda engines than most, maybe a b18 of some sort?
This is my daily driver so it doesn't need to be over-the-top fast or flashy. Just needs to get me around for another year or two while other repairs are completed and I can sell the car.
I'm primarily a Chevy guy, so Hondas aren't my specialty. My wife and I also have a '10 Cobalt and '91 S-10, and we just sold a '94 Suburban and '94 Sonoma. Also in the garage is a low-mileage '79 CB750K, and it's in better shape than the Civic.
Hope I posted in the right forum.
