I'm looking for ideas for a motor build. I'm looking at a budget of $4k for the build. I currently have a B18A1, and I'd like to use that. But another issue is the tranny. Mine is a cable, and I'd like both wheels to spin.

Oh I should of mentioned. I want the motor turbo'd.

what kind of car is it?

Brakes, suspension, wheels/tires, then engine.
That or buy a newer car.

I think you should stop asking others what they think you should do and just research and build it how you want it. Everyone is going to have his or her own opinion on what to do with 4k, figure out what you want out of your car and make it happen.

Hmm, what would I do for $4k...

J35 swap with custom transmission setup (not from a J) AND an LSD, cheapo twin turbo, cheapo AEM FIC for tuning, fab my own braces so the chassis doesn't twist up, mount shocks/springs inboard so I have more room for super wide tires inside the stock fenders, then still have money left over to go eat a steak.

But that's me. :D

It's a 90 CRX SI, all the suspension is done, fully brake system overhauled, 10 point roll cage, aluminum dash with gages, sun roof cut and and filled in, front supports for drag. This is pretty much the start so far.

My question was surrounding the motor.
I want to spend 4-5k on it, plus add a precision turbo to top it off.

What I have now is a LS motor with cable tranny.

Ok, so in all seriousness...

It doesn't matter if your transmission is cable or hydraulic. You can still put an LSD in. Cost can be anywhere from $400 for a cheapo OBX that you have to do a lot of finishing work on to make sure it survives repeated drag launch punishment (not hard, just time consuming) up to thousands of bucks for sweet JDM weirdness.

If you want to drop that cash on the motor ONLY and your turbo setup isn't included in the number, you can do pretty much anything you want. Resleeve out to 2.0L, add VTEC head, awesome forged rods and pistons (not cheapo forged rods and pistons), cams, port/polish- add boost and you'll have way more torque than you can handle in a front driver.

if ya want both wheels to spin,TRACTION,,install a LSD in ur cable tranny, simple enough..as for motor, just use the ls u got an boost the hell outta of it,tune is key here,an use some of the money to buy a spare ls just in case...cause stock ls turbos in a crx is plenty, just crank the boost about 1 bar,get a really good tune,an call it a day,,speaking from personal experience..just pulled my built b18b turbo outa my ef hatch,20+psi in a light car is a little much, traction is gonna be ur biggest demon if u r plannin on making 350+horses..hope u know how to drive,,lol

Cant compete with that :( I hope he... Fulfills... (dramatic eyebrow) (somebody get a pic I'm on my phone)

Well, it takes a lot of fabrication knowledge and skills, and a LOT of tools/infrastructure in place for open use that most people simply don't have access to.
