i race this car at an asphalt oval that is a 3/8 mile oval with 32 degree bankings in the corners. the car is a canadian d15b1 4spd. when i run it i have to run it in second and it has no get up in 2nd. what can i do motor or transmission wise to make the car better suitable for racing that track? please keep in mind that the motor has to remain a SOHC motor. what motor? what tranny, are able to be used together that will fit in the car. any and all ideas will be helpful.

Does it has to be a Civic SOHC? Swap a F22A6, F22B1, or even a F22B2, or an easier swap a D16Z6, or Y8.

if everything lines up properly then i dont see why it has to be a civic sohc as long as it is sohc. what tranny would work best for which motor? right now it has a 4spd tranny in it.

Well, the F series are going to need a mount kit, and they use cable shiftlinkage I believe, vs the rod type in your car now (or an adapter plate to run your D series tranny, but the gearing sucks anyway). There's a bit of work involved, but nothing too bad, but it would stay SOHC, and be pushing between 120-140hp, and have a better tranny. To stay D series you could get the D16Z6, or D16Y8, which both have sportier gearing than the DX, and are direct replacements for the most part for your engine.

A Dx in stock form is not a very good race car. The D15 motor is low on power but is was never designed to be a heavy hitter. It was made for low cost and high fuel economy. The 4 spd trans is geared long to increase mpg. Best solution IMO is to swap to a B16A SiRI or a B18C1, even in stock form these motors are far better in every way. Both where designed to be high rpm high hp motors as well as keep the good fuel economy. The transmissions that come along with the B series motors are also much better suited for the trace. The B16 has very short gears to make up for it low tq and is a great choice for a car that sees a lot of track time. The GSR trans is slightly longer in gearing but has a 2-3 gears and is good for street and the track. The JDM ITR trans is almost a full racing geared trans with shorter gears than the B16 and has a LSD. Some GSR trans and B16 trans came with LSD as well.

^^^ can't do B-series.......stated (a few times) that is must stay SOHC

D16A6 is more hp (108hp) and better gearing (the EF Si motor and trans) and will go in easy.

D16Z6 (92-95 Si/EX) takes much more to get in your EF (trans and motor)
And it isn't as peppy in low rpms (not sure the rpm range you hit on the track in 2nd) b/c of the Primary Lobe on the VTEC camshafts.
