"The Department of Homeland Security spends a shockingly disproportionate amount of its budget not on security initiatives, but on customs seizures. In particular, importers of grey-market vehicles have been targeted by monies taxpayers have intended to be used to secure our country against terrorism and terrorist activity. We call upon the Executive Branch to immediately cease this wasteful activity, and furthermore to change the DOT/EPA exemption time on grey-market vehicles from 25 years to 15 years (to match the vehicle regulations of Canada), recognizing that the 25-year rule was enacted due to support from special interests such as Mercedes Benz North America."

They want to change it to 15 years. Would be nice but it's just a petition. :(

Doing somethings better than doing nothing

-and I actually lose if this were to take effect, the value of my car would drop significantly...but I still support the motion

Resale value only matters if you plan on selling it.

In my opinion....re-sale value needs to always be put into context.......with a need/desire to sell or not.

I support the act......now lets get a CA act for their tight ass ways about swaps  (pipe dream)

I think if you enjoy the car just for the car, then I don't think it would matter. Then again, I like ratty shit.

I'm still waiting on an email so I can finish registration....

Insurance value matters if it gets wrecked or stolen.

I think it's a poor idea, and I don't support it.

We need to stop wasting our representatives' time on this kind of crap, and work on actually passing a spending authorization bill on time.

Agreed, unfortunately.

Our representatives should be able to juggle a few things at a time, shouldn't they? I've got 8.4 quadrillion things going on at once at work, they need to step up and handle it too. Too bad it seems they usually can't get fired without a sex scandal though.

Well if our representatives didn't enact laws to fatten their wallets by protecting special interest groups, we wouldn't waste their time with this "crap"

And FUCK the DOT....I have an extra hour commute because I carry 2-3 30lb cylinders of refrigerant in my van. Even though they would not explode in a fire, they're considered hazardous cargo simply because it's compressed in a cylinder. I don't have to bear HC placards (as defined by law) on my van yet I have to adhere to HC routes because "they say so"

Car haulers are in the same boat, because they carry the gasoline in the tanks of the cars they're hauling...
